Jul-04-01, 12:32 PM (EST) "Empire Builder consist" Does anyone know the exact (or as exact as possible) consist for Amtrak's Empire Builder? (ie number of locos, type and number of carriages etc.) - planning to replace the default Genesis consist with a real one. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-04-01, 08:21 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Empire Builder consist" It's been a while since I've been over Marias, but at least in Spokane (further down the BNSF mainline westbound) the consist is usually of 2 Genesis AMD's with about 10-12 SuperLiner cars, a baggage car or 2 and 2 to 5 silver freight cars (I think they're "Materials Handling" or MH cars?) usually tacked on to the end. Someone actually living on the Funnel or on the High-Line might have more up-to-date info... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-08-01, 05:33 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Empire Builder consist" When I rode it this year, the consist was the following:
2 genesis locos
1 silver baggage car (which I haven't yet found available for download)
1 transition sleeper (where the crew sleeps and eats)
2 sleepers
1 diner
1 sightseer lounge
1 coach
1 smoker/coach
1 coach
4 Express freight cars on end. This is the consist I modeled in the activity I posted here under 'Activities' called "Empire Builder Westbound". The cars I used in that activity were created by Buzz Benz and Andrew Held, and they're really well done. Thanks Buzz and Andrew!!I'm guessing the consist varies somewhat but that's a fairly typical long distance Amtrak Superliner western consist, the Southwest Chief was exactly the same when I rode it, the Texas Eagle was similar except no smoking car and only one sleeper. Is the silver baggage car of the "heritage" type? In that case perhaps someone could make an Amtrak skin for one of the Empire State Express baggage cars when that is ready? After what I have seen the "heritage" cars seem to be fairly similar to the ESE cars...

Jul-09-01, 01:08 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Empire Builder consist" I work at Union Station in Chicago, for Metra not Amtrak, and see this consist on a near daily basis. For the record it's timetable designation is the "Empire Builder", trains 8, 48 and 808. In Chicago at least, Tulsarailfan's posting seems to represent the "average" daily consist. Jul-12-01, 00:20 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Empire Builder consist" Buzz just uploaded his Sightseer Lounge (nicely done!). I'd use that one instead of the default. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I'm having trouble getting the empire builder westbound (and
others) to work..could it be I don't have the consist right?
I'm getting error messages that refer to the trainset.I'd love some input as to what I could be doing wrong.
Thanks

Jul-12-01, 09:35 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Empire Builder consist" The consists mentioned are close to what the consist was when I rode the Capitol Limited to and from Washington D.C. They usually keep the same consist and take it back the opposite direction, so a train with the sleepers in front one way would have them on the back going the other direction. Hope this helps.
