Okay everyone, I'm looking for opinions on designing activies that require you to use the front coupler. Now I understand this is a mixed bag. Some say it works without any problem, others say it crashes TS, and yet others say sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Add the issue the patch from MS and the discussions don't change a whole lot. As I've been build my route, at certain areas I start thinking about switching activites, but then, oh no, you'd have to use the front coupler in order to do the switching. Oh boy, back to the drawing board. For me my odds are 50/50 that this kind of activity will or won't crash the simulator. So what's your opinion on designing activites using the front coupler? Thanks MattSP Coast Route (Laying track- 2% complete)
Nobody ever actually nailed this down for sure, but my theory is that the path causes the crash. If I place a loose consist somewhere, and the player path extends thru that car, I can duplicate that lockup every time (beta testing to deliberatly get a lockup or crash is a royal pain!). If I place the consist off the path somewhere, requiring throwing a manual switch to get into the siding and pick up the car, the front coupler is no problem. Usually. Hee-hee, always gotta toss in that disclaimer, I use the front coupler and the sim crashes a few minutes later, was it the front coupler or one of the multitude of other bugs that triggered it? That's the primary reason the PO&N has more wyes per mile than any other route, it was designed as a switching route back in the days before the patch.
