Jul-03-01, 06:57 PM (EST) "Static Consists - - what gives?" I've almost completed my passenger route activity and decided to spruce it up a bit with some static consists.Now, can anybody explain to me the following:1) How can I view where these have been inserted?
2) How can I remove a static consist?I have searched here and know that there is some sort of tutorial on avsim.com but, having been there, cannot fathom out where it might be. A URL would be handy.
Cheers! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-03-01, 11:09 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" Open the Activity editor and open the activity to edit
1)Zoom in on the track of interest
2)Place the mouse cursor over the track until a circle appears
3)Click the right mouse button
4)Window appears near cursor
5)Select "Place Consist"
6)Choose the consist desired and hit OK
7)Add as many consist as desired and save the activity Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-04-01, 08:44 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" If I recall, zooming in and right-clicking on the consist presents a box with options including Delete. I know I deleted about half the static consists in my first activity creation attempt because so many objects caused a big fps hit over the entire line. Jul-04-01, 10:04 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" LAST EDITED ON Jul-04-01 AT 10:07 AM (EST)Boy am I glad I'm not the only one with this problem! I've been going crazy reading and re-reading both the (lack of) help files and the Sybex book. Everything points to the consists being visible on the map. I don't see them.(As an aside I don't see the sim 'testing' when I press the play button)I'm going to reinstall the SIM later to see if the Activity editor gets corrected.I found that with care you can (AT YOUR OWN RISK) edit the *.ACT file. I'd make a copy of the last good one first, then edit the main one. Add '- bacakup' to the label for the SIM Activity selector so you can tell them apart.Use WORDPAD (notepad doesn't use the LFCR codes in the text) to open the file.You'll find the consists listed like this (you may want to copy this out to wordpad to read it):============================================ ActivityObject (
ObjectType ( WagonsList )
Train_Config (
TrainCfg ( ""
Name ( "Loose consist." )
Serial ( 4 )
MaxVelocity ( 0.00000 0.00100 )
NextWagonUID ( 5 )
Durability ( 1.00000 )
Wagon (
WagonData ( US2FCarRF2 US2FCarRF2 )
UiD ( 0 )
)
Wagon (

UiD ( 1 )

)
Direction ( 0 )
ID ( 32797 )
Tile ( -11017 14309 -625.021 290.565 )
)
================================================This is a five car block of mixed freight that I placed on a siding. This is one of many, but I don't see them on the Activities map. When I right click where the train should be, the Delete and Properties choices are not available.The two things I've been able to do are:Delete the record from the ActivityObject (
ObjectType ( WagonsList )to the Tile ( -11017 14309 -625.021 290.565 )
)Be surte to balance the () or else the file will not work.If you change Direction ( 0 )to Direction ( 1 )the consist will reverse from the point you placed it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-04-01, 01:14 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" Thanks for the tips. I'm sure I read somewhere about a fix for this problem (apart from a reinstall).I'm rather confused about it all.I, too, don't see anything happen when pushing the play button - maybe both our machines are "buggered up" (technical term)Col

Jul-04-01, 05:06 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" Are you clicking on the Verify Start State under the tool menu item before pushing play? That takes you to the time the you set the scenario to start at. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-08-01, 04:13 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" OK, now I'm cooking.Trying to be a wiseguy I tried to change the civil speed limit on the NEC. Two changes:MP 20 to 22 reduce speed to 80MPH through the double reverse curve to get the two middle tracks to the west side of the right of way.North of Baltimore where there seems to be a very low limit 30-50 MPH for straight tracks.Anyway the first one never showed up on the track indicator. I never got to the second because the train derails for no apparent reason at MP 43. The sim gives an end of activity - car derailed.After a few tries, I gave up and reloaded the whole sim from scratch (I did export my activity, but it was not destroyed with the relodad (that's good).Well now the Activity editor shows the trains I placed (both AI and Static). and the play button shows the train moving. However, the train still derailed at MP 43.I then changed the path to use the outer track instead of the middle past MP43 and all is well.Now the Activity editor seems to work 100%.Typical MS, if all else fails, reinstall.

Jul-11-01, 11:43 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Static Consists - - what gives?" you guys not being able to see consists or paths, I'm wondering what kind of video card you have. I have an annihilator 2, and altho I'm not having problems seeing anything in the activity editor, the terrain tool in the route editor gives me fits. now you see it now you don't stuff. might look at new drivers/card settings to fix it. weird thing happened yesterday - I got the physics update for the geep38 that included the head out view, and thought there was something wrong with the file because the sound was ok looking forward, but muted and staticy looking backward. I screwed with it for a week, then yesterday bumped the line jack from the sound card and the sound came and went. replaced the jack, now everything's ok. in other words, just cuz the program is buggy don't assume that all problems are in the program. ya never know.
