I am curious if anyone has made any activities using mostly steam engines? Something aside from the "normal" excursion train of today. You know, something for when steam ruled the rails. I would try to do one myself but presently I am trying to build a route and a steam engine. Thanks and good day!Michael
Currently i'm trying to to build a steam excursion activity for the original Marias Pass. however my first attempt did not make it up the hill due to not enough horsepower as the steam engine was a Golsdorf 310 having to haul 7 Penndennis passenger cars behind it. in order for this to work you would have to add helpers. hope this helps. also test extensively as you may not get the activity right on the first go.Phlox
i do! its for Raton Pass all steam the only un steam in it is the Big BLow i will upload it later! but it hasnt been tested cause i am havin errors with the route! its talkin bout a signal problem! PEACE Love Freedom
I know what you're talking about! i had the exact same trouble when i did a passenger run from whitefish to Essex, where when i had gotton to Conkelly i couldn't go any further because the signal was red and the opposing train was at Belton. i haven't found any way to fix this but if i do then i will let you know. Also don't use the big blow as this isn't a prototypical practice using a turbine with a steam engine. You could use a 380, a 310(which if you get a updated engine file for it in the steam loco section of the file library you can drive it), a Flying Scotsman, a Royal Scot, a Pendenis Castle or any other appropriate steam loco. if you want you can use the big blow but it will look out of place with a steam engine. I designed one for the original Marias Pass route...grain switching at Cutbank. It was just a copy of the default activity "Cutbank Grain Car Sorting" and was designed to practice steam engine handling skills. I also designed an activity for Rich Garber's Ohio River Railroad route, but my motherboard died before I could upload it. It was supposed to be a coal train heading north to Zanesville. With the steep grades and very low water, it made for an interesting activity. Whenever I get my computer running again I'll ask for beta testers.JoeP.S. I almost forgot, I also designed the activity "Krenshaw Peddler" for the EMRR. You operate a steam engine...in the rain...under a time limit
Joe, I always have difficulty with that activity(the time part) and it just pissed me off so much, that I have not tried it for several months."Keep on Trucking by Train" "Your freight goes great with Great Northern."Erik Pierson Sacramento, Ca www.sacramentolocomotiveworks.comBringing the steam engine to the digital age.
