Hi folks.Progress is being made on the MBTA. I got tired of placing scenery on the southern end so this morning I decided to start in the Boston area. Still pretty bare up there but I have worked on a special project. I placed a moving ocean liner in the ocean next to Boston. I must say I am pretty pleased with the results.
I converted a scenery object (Ocean Liner) to a drivable engine.
Placed some tracks under the water and created an AI in one of the activities. I even added the sound of an ocean liner whistle to it.
Now I have to figure out how to have smoke coming out of the three smoke stakes on the ship.Am including some screen shots of the ship coming into the harbor.Hope this meets your fancy.Joe Simerjoe@cox.net

RE: Progress on the MBTA

That looks great. The smoke shouldn't be a problem if the ship is defined as a diesel, just add the exhaust effects to the engine file. You can only have 2 smoke sources, but on most ocean liners I believe one stack was a dummy used for vents. Keep up the good work.Harold

RE: Progress on the MBTA

I used a small steam engine. I believe it's a 0-6-0 switcher.
I'll have to look in the eng file about the smoke. If not, I'll switch to a deisel engine.By the way, the idea is not mine. Somewhere on one of these posts I read something about it. It sure looks good in the sim. Can't wait to upload it. I want to add just a little more scenery before uploading version 4.JoePS The route is really taken shape now. It's really getting to be fun.

RE: Progress on the MBTA

Simmer...Right...not the first to do this, but I think the first to do it with a three-stacker. There are towboats and barges on Garber's Ohio Rail that are a lot of fun for activity developers (I used them in one of the activities I did for Ohio Rail steam era. If you don't see the towboat in the river, you're off schedule and going to hold up the southbound.) Next thing, you need to stop the ship at a pier or wharf...of course, you'll have to build a pier or wharf first. Charlie
Old Colony-Newport
Newport, RIps: Suggest trying to do your own piers and wharfs; the ones in Ohio Rail tend to "shimmer" if you don't get your viewpoint just right when running an activity.

RE: Progress on the MBTA

And how many times have you gotten all frustrated and been ready to throw in the towel until all the MBTA fans encouraged you not to?
Aren't you glad the fans are almost as Bone Headed as You? LOL!Great work Joe...
I love it...
Run it all the time and my GrandKritters in Bean-town run it too....
P.S. They want more buildings in downtown Boston....Ship is beautiful and adds just the right touch IMO...Chuck Schneider

RE: Progress on the MBTA

Hey Joe why is there only one signal on the darn thing and why is it always set at approach which has the effect of restricting the line to 45 mph....
You do know that is a 150mph route there don't you?????

RE: Progress on the MBTA

Hi Joe, Great Route! Her comes the but:
The route 128 station is still on the wrong side of Route 128 / I-93 Going North from Prov, the station roof butts the expressway and goes south. Other than that, looks really great....
