Looking for info on the Pillbury plant – image 1

I just realized I missed it when I did he CGW! Right near the airport, there is a big plant. I looked at the aerial images, but if it wasn't for my familiarity with Kautz road, I would have just called the track dirt. So what does the track look like! Thanks!

David,
You have access to the same resources as the rest of us. For me to answer your questions, I would goto Terraserve or USAPhotoMaps. What I am trying to say here is rather than constantly asking what does this place look like or what does that yard look like, DO SOME RESEARCH on the net or in your local library. If you live near the locations in question, chances are that you have access to better resources than any of us. Go look at the site. If the track is gone, check your local railroad yard office or business office. Check your library's map and periodical sections. There may be old maps or newspaper articles showing what you are looking for. Your library may have a historical section. Check there and ask the librarian for help, if you need it. Also check for books on the railroad you are modeling. There are literally hundreds of railroad books available and many have original track diagrams. Good Luck.

David - I think Cal's right. There's a common misconception that one of us out here has the answer to most any question. The reality is that most of us are pretty clueless, and it's a real treasure to find someone with (a) the right answer; (b) a willingness to share it; and (c) a willingness to share it for free and without an attitude. There are certainly a lot of those folks on the forum, and they're commonly known and respected. Here's your chance to become one of those people who do know their stuff - become the expert on the route you're building by checking out those sources of information Cal listed. That's how anyone who's an expert got to be that way. Like lots of things, it's not easy, but it's well worth the effort.Andy

Once more, once you know your stuff, some weeks down the road, someone may post a thread calling for you andf with such contents as, "I saw you did the _____ route, and I wonder if you could help me with a question about..." Then you would be able to answer him and be praised.(Although I HIGHLY doubt any one will be asking me for info about the Falls Creek railroad)

LAST EDITED ON Jun-24-03 AT 11:27 AM (EDT)

I have two questions--Where is the Falls Creek railroad, and what is that logo you use for your avatar. It is almost identical to that formerly used by the Willamette and Pacific railroad and almost identical to that used by the Portland and Western rr.Cal Rasmussen

The logo is that of the Buffalo & Pittsburgh, a railroad owned by the same company as the P&W/W&P (Gennesee & Wyoming Inc)The Falls Creek was in Falls Creek PA, right along the B&P, it went bankrupt, the state took it back, then B&P Bought it. It's torn up now.= and is a trail.

Yeah - most of us have learned to tell good stories, but that doesn't mean we know very much! As much as you've been doing lately, pretty soon we'll be asking you all these questions, and you'll probably have some answers for us. Keep at it!Andy
