It was rainy fortunately in Jacksonville today, so I had an excuse to be lazy (wife still works for a bank, she is 12 years younger than I) and not do yard work. Hence, I was able to finish all three railroads to a point about 1 miles east of the west end of Silver Bow Canyon. As far as I know, there is no BA&P stock in the library, so the BA&P has leased a unit from CSX. Of course it is 1955 or so, and this type of unit will not appear on the scene for another 20 years or so, but aren't those westerners inventive??Each PIx. has it's own caption, but I do have a possible problem, though not with the track per se'. Here it is -- I know the elevation of the MILW at virtually every curve and switch, the profile has this data on it. I also know that at the point where the BA&P crosses over the NP and the MILW, the latter two are virtually level with each other, give or take a meter, and the BA&P has to clear the higher of the two by 24 feet or more. (I made it about 24.5 ft.) I also know that there is a physical connection between the NP and the BA&P (or at least there was) at Durant, so their elevations need to be close at that point. Otherwise, I do not have a clue what the NP and BA&P relative heights are to the MILW. If anyone has any pix. images, they could provide other than at Durant or the BA&P bridge, it would help, otherwise, I am just going to go with my assumptions.J. H. Sullivan

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

The CSX locomotive (and everything I use) can be found in the Train-Sim library. I know it can be frustrating to log in, unless you have a 1st class account (I don't), but keep at it, and you will eventually get in. In spite of what it says, there is really no time that is better or worse than any other.I think everything CSX ever had, and quite a few they never had (like Gas Turbines) can be found in the Library. Also, there are probably 100 different Milwaukee Road items --- now any structure designers want to tackle making MILW Substations??J. H. Sullivan

Hi Jerry,I usually keep tabs on new uploads here but completely missed that one !, l'll go check it out, looks nice.Substations, hmm, if you dont mind Gmax models l could look at one for you, how big are they and do you have any images / plans etc.l'm must confess l'm seriously tempted to electrify my route, there was talk way back of NP doing just that through Stampede tunnel and bring them into line with MILW and GN Cascade practises but they chose steam and diesels. If l do electrify then MILW substations with a few alterations will fit in well. I will be doing some HT pylons, your free to use those when there ready.Best regardsMichaelEdit, Where is Silver Bow Canyon in relationship to Snoqualmie and Stampede ?, thats the only area l know where MILW and NP run close by.

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

Silver Bow Canyon is located west of Butte, Montana on the second sub of the Rocky Mountain Division. BNSF just recently took over the BA&P/Montana Western trackage through here and rumor has it they maybe interested in opening up Homestake Pass for through traffic.I believe Todd (xlspecial261) was going to work on some Milw substations for Martin Gibson's First Sub of the RMD and for his version of the Coast Division (Othello to Tacoma). I'd be real interested to see the Milw incorporated into your Stampede Pass line. The area around Renton and Black River Junction has always been interesting for me. One day I need to get a copy of the Coast Division (the Washington Division in the late years) track profiles and see how it was actually layed out (the topos from terraserver are created after the Milw was abandoned).Austin

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

Austin,Thanks, couldnt place that part of the country in relation to the Cascade area. I think Cle Elum is the transfer point between MILW and NP/BNSF, looks like some nice scenery up past Keechelus lake, not sure if that part of the line was electryfied, l'll look up what images l have on the MILW later and yes l dont have a gradient profile at all, though the DEM data almost plots the road bed in the mountains at most places, incredable really. The tiles are in on the route for the northern route of the MILW through Snoqualmie pass, then dropping down through Ceder falls and joining back up with the BNSF at Kanaskat Jct, so the option is very much still there. With decent markers laid out it should be possible to go to them in RE and read the altitude at key points and then work out the required gradient between.Best regardsMichael

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

Milwaukee Road Coast division!!!!! I'm foaming for it!!! I'm making lot's of Milwaukee Road electrication furniture, line poles, etc. And the EF-1 series of locos. I'd be very happy to throw in some of my talents on that route, if you, or anyone else ever decides to tackle that one!!!! The Milw had some unique trolley arrangements in Washinton, which would make for some interesting models in future.Last night I whipped-up the inside pole-braced bracketed trolley pole, for J.H.Sullivan's route. It needs some adjustments.....Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

Tim,Jerry has dropped some planes for sub stations and a quick web trawl this afternoon has dragged up some good images both color and B&W so those structures can be built now, they will be for Jerrys route but will sit really well with the MILW Snoqualmie pass esp around Cle Elum, l belive theres a 3 and 4 set box cab coming soon as well ?.I think MILW dropped down from Ceder Falls to Bagley Junct then cut across to Renton with there electric services, not sure of the juice jacks route on the MILW right now.I do have the desire to build a little joe, oh well next months project .Best regardsMichael

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

All of the Milwaukee Road substations were built from standard plans, which I have supplied Mickoo. The principal difference, i.e. most noticable, is that those in the heavy snow areas, Avery and East Portal to mention 2, had peaked roofs, whereas most of them had flat roofs. In all cases, the roof was a cast concrete slab - these things would have made nice bomb shelters.J. H. Sullivan

RE: Tracks now most of the way through Silver Bow Canyo

The Milwaukee went from Cedar Falls to Black River Jct. going through Bagley Jct., Barneston, Trude, Noble, Maple Valley, and Renton. If you don't have a timetable of the Coast Division, heres a good source for one: http://persweb.direct.ca/helmutw/MilwRd/miles/milwmilx.html I'd love to see an EF-4 (Little Joe) roaming on the RMD since most of the boxcabs were based on the Coast Div. Looking at Under Milwaukee Wire by Bill Marvel, only the EP-2s (Bi-Polar) and the boxcabs ran on the Coast Div. in the 50s, with a selective few EF-4s running every now and then. Hey Tim, have you worked on either the E22 or E23? These were the boxcabs with the streamlined noses that only a mother could love.Austin

Todd, I didn't know that is your site! I discovered it thru Google search a few weeks ago, and yesterday, turned Jerry on to it. It's a very well-put together site, and I 'borrowed' all your signs for the project. Thank you for making it available, and the great photos! Timtimmuir@wcn.net
