New thread.....previous thread getting WAY too long....The route is coming very close to being released to public beta testing. I have run several test trains over the principal main routes and am now setting up several activities for exploring the route. Some general house-keeping to get done (station, platform, siding names mostly) along with finishing road crossings and streets before I make the first release. As of this evening, the route is railed and roaded from end of track east of Marceline to Rothville. This includes terrain work and SOME water....The initial release will have VERY little scenery but some buildings will be present. NO signals (sorry, folks), so no AI traffic initially during the first couple of beta releases.NOTE: This route will require XTracks 3.5 or later and the standardized Tsection.dat version 0.18 or later.JBD

RE: ATSF Marceline Sub/N&W Joint Line Route progress...

Roads, rivers, and terrain adjustments are now completed on the Santa Fe from Marceline to Carrollton. If I get a couple more highly productive days like today (RE didn't crash ALL DAY!) then I should be ready to package and release to beta sometime later next week...JBD

RE: ATSF Marceline Sub/N&W Joint Line Route progress...

Terrain, rivers, roads, bridges (minus abutments/piers), and trackage are all done as far west as Norborne (MO) on BOTH lines!I made an amazing discovery the other night about height measurements....turns out they're in meters, NOT feet. This means that I've got some work to do at Rock Creek Jct. and CA Jct. where overhead bridges happen, but nothing to sweat....I finally feel like I'm getting the knack of digging streams and rivers but still aren't totally happy with bank shapes (lots of jagged edges)... I'm sorry to say, though, that the route will NOT get released this weekend....Likely release date is now June 20th....I'll be posting some new screenshots tomorrow...JBD

RE: ATSF Marceline Sub/N&W Joint Line Route progress...

It's been several days since I posted an update on the route's progress. Given the usual "out of memory" crash of RE hitting just now I decided to take a breather and write up the latest track report...Last night I completed roads in Henrietta and on westward toward Camden. Today I have been focusing on roads in/around Camden and CA Junction. Camden is close to completion and should be finished later tonight...I spent an hour last night raising the N&W track through Camden to CA Junction and on to Fleming (remember? I finally figured out that height is measured in meters, not feet!). Plan of attack for the rest of today is to work west on the ATSF to the Missouri River, finishing up Floyd and the various rural crossings in the river bottoms. After that I will work west on the NW through Orrick and on to Missouri City with roadwork. For the rest of this week, plans call for fixing height problems at Rock Creek Junction and finishing up roadwork on the NW and ATSF prior to initial beta release.I am toying with releasing the current version for open testing...Thoughts???JBD

Sounds like things are coming along very well. Since I lost my last 2 routes to a hard drive crash, I've also been working pretty hard on my latest project: Burlington Northern K-Line. As it stands right now I have trackwork about 50% done. St. Louis-Louisiana, MO is complete. I will continue North through Hannibal to West Quincy in the near future.

Would you mind posting some screenshots of Louisiana? I would be very interested in seeing how our different versions compare and contrast. I'll put up a few shots as soon as I get some of the more complictaed trackwork in the area done.

RE: ATSF Marceline Sub/N&W Joint Line Route progress...

Heh, I was just told the hogger on our train today about the route since he used to work on the Marceline in the late 80s and he also has MSTS. Guess if I see the guy again, I'll have to tell him where to download it at when it comes out (as he sounded quite interested in the route).Anyway, its starting to look real. Put some scenery down and it shall be a great route. Keep up the great work!Austin S.

RE: ATSF Marceline Sub/N&W Joint Line Route progress...

LAST EDITED ON Jun-20-03 AT 09:03 AM (EDT)

As of 1970 something..there was no more interchange track at the diamond. The lead off the GM&O was there..but stopped at the interlocker signal for the GM&O on the camera shot here. The only interchange was north of the GM&O depot 3 blocks north of this camera shot...so this is prototypical and correct for the BNSF/KCS diamond at LA, MO.Yes Jae..I can almost smell the river...that large BUNGE elevator in the background would sure be a major asset..(when you get to the structure placement that is.)I want your route when you get it done!..P.

This is the BN(pre-BNSF) layout I have so far-

Does anyone have any good maps or photos of the layout of the small yard in the northwestern corner of the shot? I can't get a very good feel for it based on USAPhotoMaps images.
Thanks- Jae
