Hello you terrain gurus out there,I am just about finished laying track on the Brenneman Sub of my own fictional line, and I ran into a serious problem.Remember the White Void that appeared on Conrail Indy when you were taking an eastbound over the line?Well, I've got a reincarnation of that one. The difference is: my route kicks the sim in to Send/Don't Send Land.White Void Where Terrain Is SUPPOSED To Be – image 1I am building from the west towards east, so I stumbled on the above error at Tile X -11776. (The camera is in Tile X -11777, Z 14459). The terrain has been generated further 26 kilometers east of this location, but it does not show up.I did some investigation in the RGE, and found this:White Void Where Terrain Is SUPPOSED To Be – image 2White Void Where Terrain Is SUPPOSED To Be – image 3I added the white line there, it marks the location of a boundary of some sort (UTM?). When I placed the RE starting point west of that location, the White Void problem occurred, but once I placed the starting point on the east side, I was able to see the terrain and build normally. This is not a DEM issue, I made a test by generating a dummy blank route at the very same location. The problem reoccurred. My investigation revealed that there is a Terrain Description boundary of some sort where I have drawn the white line. When I generated tiles that overlapped this boundary, the TD folder contained two .TD files:White Void Where Terrain Is SUPPOSED To Be – image 4Shown above the TD folder with TD_IDX.DAT open in WordPad.
The question: is there a solution to make this White Void problem to go away? I would hate to re-align a big portion of track, after all I am so darn close to the terminal here...

RE: White Void Where Terrain Is SUPPOSED To Be

Ya sorry to hear that.. that's a royal pain in the ass and one of the 'joys' of route building.. at least your route isn't 100 % complete so you can still have the dreaded option of starting over(?)Well, as far as I know, there is one solution and one remedy for this problem. I hate to say this, but the only solution that I know of is to offset the entire route (on longitude or latitude) enough such that the track doesn't come near the big RGE lines.. (I actually had to offset mine BOTH on the longitude and latitude as I was crossing both a horizontal and vertical line and had a massive white void)But keep in mind though that there are some routes that have been released (even some commercial ones) that suffer from the white void syndrome as well. Players remedy this by simply saving the activity once they reach the void, then reloading it again. Once reloaded, everything is fine again. (I had thought the white void only occured for westbounds??)BTW, that's interesting what you found there.. hope some 'terrain guru' can gain some insight from that. (maybe delete one of the entries!?!? i dunno)cdntrains

RE: White Void Where Terrain Is SUPPOSED To Be

Well, since it is a fictional route, I really don't give a **** where it is located. But since it was meant to be an east-west line I would like the route to run in east-west direction. One solution seems to be to continue south, but that would require a massive realignment, otherwise the tracks would be in True North To South...I really hope there is a way to come over this... anyone know the solution?

Read the FAQs (bottom of this page). Moving your start tile to the side where the void is will let you continue building. Doing a save and restart will fix it while running the route. There is no known fix for it, but there are work arounds that dont require to much additional effort.EDIT Techinical Question 17.

I've just encountered the same white-void problem with the (massive) north-south RGE boundary line separating the range of tiles of "-6145" with that of "-6144", going eastbound; however, I get no white void when crossing this boundary heading west.I get around it by saving the activity once my consist has *fully* crossed that RGE boundary, i.e., when I reload the saved activity the terrain is fully displayed (and all subsequent terrain too).I'm about to post a help question here in this forum, because I tested this RGE boundary line in Scotland, France, and central Africa on a completely new test route (i.e., one with a new directory name, etc., etc.). The wierd thing is that the African tile "-6144/12536" didn't even appear in RE let alone MSTS.I'd fancy knowing if saving your activity restored your terrain. Thanks
