Anyone here done any programming using DirectX Com, either V8 thru V9?I noticed in the V8.1 SDK under 'Old-Tools' there was a Conv3ds utility for converting from .3ds format to x format to be used by a display utility. Wonder how close that format is to the .s format??Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Shameless bump!!

I'm not into graphics programming but looking at the sdk documentation it looks like the basic principal is the same but the convert from MSTS was designed based on the sdk specificly to produce graphics for MSTS. I think the sdk convert is much more generic. It could do the job but you would have to manually set all the right switches and adjust the output extensions.
The purpose of both is to produce a file that direct x can use in native format, it wasnt just something KUJU dreamed up. Kuju was just programming for direct x.

RE: Shameless bump!!

It certainly 'seems' like there is some similarity there. I went back to some older Directx version SDKs hoping to find the source for its flavor of Conv3ds. No luck. With it, you would stand a chance of changing it to match what the MSTS version does. From there, going backwards might be reasonable too. But I want to be able take an .s format and process it like the .x files and show the results in a window that lets you rotate it around. This would make a great previewer for all those shape files we have laying around and forget what they look like, unless we fire up the RE or Sim.Martyn T. Griffin
