Aug-02-01, 11:50 PM (EST) "Route designer problems" Look, these are probably really common problems, but I can't seem to get a precise answer. I've done an archive search, but to no avail.1. Track 'floats'-land does not deform to match when you push the Y key. Everything was working fine, then suddenly it wasn't - am I basically screwed, or is there a fix?2. I hit the edge of the world. A lot. How do you make a route that crosses tiles?Thanks in advance for help.Mike Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Route designer problems" I'm not sure I understand how you're creating the elevated track, so here are guidelines that work for me:When the editor raises/lowers terrain it reads three values currently set in the "Terrain" window. That's the window with "Embankment" ,"Width" and "Cut" values.Embankment is a value from 2 to 88 that sets how steep the raised edge vertical face will be.Cut is a value from 2 to 88 that sets how much horizontal space the embankment will occupy.Width is the minimum width that will be changed to have the Embankment and Cut values.
Before adjusting anything
=========================
Press F7 to enter "Terrain Patch edit" mode.
Right-click the tile where the track will change height.
Select "Error bias" in that list
The default value is 1. Change this to 0.
You can select multiple tiles using the SHIFT key when you click the mouse, then set "Error Bias" for all selected tiles.
This will make the elevation change easier to manage.Place Track
===========
When you place the first non-flat track piece try using a 50m length. You can always replace a 50m length with a 10m after that initial elevation is filled in.
Adjust Height
=============
Select the track section to change, then press F4 or select the object rotate tool.For my test, I'm using two 2x50m straight track pieces. One is flat on the terrain surface, the second will be tilted up to 0.750 above flat.Set "Embankment" to 60, "Cut" to 30 and "Width" to 10 for the first piece.Keep that elevated piece selected so it looks like a wire frame.
Press "Y" and the system should move the terrain.Add the next piece of track. I'm going to continue using the same angle here, so the rotation will be to 0.750 above flat.This time, set embankment to 65, width to 8 and cut to 15.Keep that elevated piece selected as a wire frame and press "Y" again.As the track rises up, the embankment becomes steeper and the cut becomes less.
Regarding the tile issue, the route geography tool creates the tiles and sets the limits. How many tiles are in the source map?

"RE: Route designer problems" I would like to just add, I have found that a width of 8 looks good on straight track, but I need a minimum of 14 for curves, otherwise it usually doesn't "take". On really steep cuts I sometimes need the default width of 18 to keep terrain from spilling over on sharp curves. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
