Hello Everybody, been a looooooooong time since I have posted. Throughout that time I have been monitoring the forums quite closely, just wanted to give a big heartfelt thanks to all the excellent routes and trains that have been uploaded (and a Special Thanks goes out to Vince for his SUPERB NEC v4.) I have purchased Michael's Route Building book and have tinkered around with a few play routes (I must say, that book helped out more than I would have ever thought!! Anyway, I have been considering creating the ex-Lehigh Valley, ex-Conrail, now NS Lehigh Line between Oak Island Yard, Newark, New Jersey to Allentown, PA. This route is a main through route for NS Freight Trains coming from points west to NJ area and north to New England. Besides NS, CSX's Trenton Line comes into the NS Lehigh Line @ CP Port Reading Jct, where it becomes Shared Assets territory from there to Oak Island Yard, Newark.
My question is, would anybody else like to see this route be built (I am warning you, this may not be completed for another year, I plan to make it extremely detailed and accurate as possible, also planning on the natural Route Editor Gremblins to show up. If all goes well with the NS Lehigh Line, I may consider doing the Trenton Line as well and having it connect to Vince's CSX line in his NEC Route. Plus, for your commuter buffs out there, NJ Transit's Raritan Line traverses the segment of the Lehigh Line from the ol' Hunter Interlocking in Newark to CP Aldene in Roselle Park, NJ where it switches off to begin its own route to Raritan/High Bridge, NJ)
As for the Lehigh Line, it is a heavy-freight route, primarily single track with a few passing sidings.
When this project gets underway, screenshots of progress will be posted frequently.

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

Yes, yes, do this route. The more NS the better. I'm also doing a NS line and its about time someone dose one. That’s one of the reasons I'm doing mine. Check the Screenshot section titled: Norfolk Southern in the Mountains, which is what I'm doing.Good idea,

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

Okay it is settled, this will be my first route, seems a few ppl are extremely enthusiastic about me creating it hehe.
ps, John Rosh, I will e-mail you shortly after this post, thank you for the help.
The reasons for me doing this route is basically it is my hometown route (as I live in Clark, NJ) and railfan quite frequently at the Rahway Avenue RR Crossing, also at CP Potter and every now and then Port Reading Jct, also as well since it is a major artery through NJ.
I always wanted to do this route, plus maybe linking Was Union Sta to the Sandpatch Route by Maple Leaf Tracks (with Permission Of Course), and then from Rockwood to Pittsburgh (as I frequently take the Captiol Limited there. But that is a way off, right now I want to concentrate on the Lehigh Line, it is not too long, but long enough for major freight running as well as Switching activities from Manville Yard and others.
Take care all,
(PS...will keep everybody updated)
Tom

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

I just wanted to give you a heads up if you plan on connecting your route to Vince's NECv4 route. Myself and Bob from philly (motley24crue2) are planning on doing an extension of the NECv4 route north. So if you plan on adding your route to the NECv4 you might want to wait until the extension is completed. Otherwise you will have to install the NECv4 route twice in order to use both the extension and your Lehigh Valley route. I definitely would love to see your route though, but I wanted to give you a heads up to avoid any conflicts with the extension that we are going to be working on.

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

The only problem with hooking the Lehigh Line up with NEC v4 is that you would have overhead wire on the entire route. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it but I will say that Port Reading Jct will look weird under the wire.Kevin

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

Yes that is true, (Overhead wires on the Lehigh Line route if connected to Vince's NEC or the upcoming extension from GXM149, Motley24crue2) Hehe decisions, decisions, It would be nice to link them all together, but as Kevin said, CP Port Reading would look weird under catenary. I will figure it out next week, Right now, the NS Lehigh Line is in the research stage, Trackplans for Allentown Yard, Oak Island and Manville Yards are being provided as well at the Current, most up-to-date Norfolk Southern Timetable. It would be nice to link it with a few routes (which will be possible), esp. the upcoming NEC Extension to NY since the NJ Transit Raritan Valley Line starts off on the Northeast Corridor @ Newark Penn Sta, and continues on the Lehigh Line before splitting off to continue its commuter run to Raritan/High Bridge, NJ) Ugh decisions decisions.

It is better to leave it as a stand alone route. It would be a royal pain trying to do activites.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

Indeed. I hate to think what the Activity Editor would look like. Also, you have to remember this *is* MSTS. No one has run into a limit on the overall size of route...yet. But the way this thing was cobbled together, who knows whether or not one exists. I, for one would hate to find out about it the hard way....YMMV,Henry

RE: Conrail's (well NS Lehigh Line

Very good Point Kev. I will leave it as a Stand-Alone route, but I may connect it to the Newark portion of the NEC from the old CP Hunter to Newark Penn Station, this way, "If I decide to do", the NJ Transit Raritan Valley Line, it will give commuter operators a line to run from Newark to Raritan/Highbridge (This is a NJT diesel commuter route, Power is usually F-40/GP-40PH with 5-6 Comet II cars) I will figure it out once I get the Lehigh Line done, once that is completed, Decisions will be made whether to continue the CSX Trenton Line to Philly and the NJT Raritan Valley Line.
Will keep you all updated, thanks for the support guysTom

John,Nope, I live down along the Jersey Shore. My "handle" even back in the CB craze days (remember that)was always Bluecomet.Working on the CNJ southern division page for my site now. Have about 10,000 pics in my collection to go through to create this thing, so I have my work cut out for me. Planning on the D & H after that. RE: Conrail's well NS Lehigh Line

Absolutly!!! I was hoping someone was eventually going to do this route. I live in South River. (1/2 hour from PRJ) and I love this line. In fact just went up to Roselle Park this morning. Caught the 18-G. 2 Dash 9's, one primer. Will you also include the Port Reading Sec.? Another thing. What will you do about the hump yard in Allentown/Oak Island? TRAINBOY101LONG LIVE THE SNAIL

Falcon
I'll second that request. Heck I wouldn't mind if it was only modeled in the 1970s to Woodmansie. That sure would be fun running 2 SD35s with a unit sand train on the SJ1. Well I can dream can't I?

Kevin,Although you could be correct, it is actually of the area between Collingswood and Farmingdale on the CNJ southern division.
The Asbury road crossing. I live and work in the area, so many field trips have resulted in as much little details as possible. Bob Staples

Well Now I feel pretty dumb. I live right here in Wall and didn't even think to realize that you would be posting pics from the southern. Did you model the Collingwood Auction and the sidings for Earle and 84? Looking forward to this route.Kevin

RE: Conrail's well NS Lehigh Line

Kevin,Yes I did. The trackage in Earle is merely guesswork, though.
The Farmingdale trackage is there with the newer ( post-CNJ ) lumber yard included. I have a few details to clean up, but that usually takes more time than anything. I have my CNJ southern pics on my site and I plan to add a page devoted to screen shots of my route some day soon.Bob Staples
