I am having a problem with doing some texture drawing in the RE. The ace file is decompressed, and I am able to write on it.When I do a save, it asks about saving that tile and in the filemanager control I specify a new name. But it then complains it can't read the original file and won't store my changes. What am I doing wrong?Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Texture drawing

This is a particularly finicky part of RE. I think this occurs if you use capital letters in your tertex filenames. Ensure the original textures all use lower case filenames. Also, as WP713 discovered, you will need to add the .ace extension to the end of the filename you provide during the save operation as RE doesn't seem to add it by default.Let us know if this solves the problem.

I've subscribed to this topic with interest in the outcome. Thank you. Also, while I seem to have the script wizards all in one place, a question, please.I would like to know the syntax (if one exists) to add a comment in the *.trk file. With it, I could very easily switch RE start points without re-entering the extractor. As it is, I have various starts in notepad, and copy/paste but a simple comment-out is preferred.TIAKind regards,

RE: Texture drawing

To comment out a line I insert a % in front (at least this works in *.env files).I believe I have also seen Comment (...) used to ignore whatever is between the parentheses.

RE: Texture drawing

The following are not necessarily all essential steps, but if follows should prove troublefree.1) Make a copy of your uncompressed texture in the terrtex folder ie: mynewtex_copy.ace2) After you assign the your blank uncompressed texture to the subtile save the route and then reload it.3) draw on your subtile.4) save the route, and when asked to specify the name select the copy you created instead of the original you assigned to the subtile.

RE: Texture drawing

OK, I just got back to town to look at the suggestions. Not being someone with a lot of patience for solutions that shouldn't be needed, I sort of did 'all of the above' in one shot, that is, I made the filenames lower case, pre-created my new ace file, and only made the drawing change in this one edit session before doing the save.It worked (thanks to all). Not sure which part did the trick but will worry about that later.Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Texture drawing

Finally took a little time to sort out the drawing tool 'rules'.First, it really has nothing to do with the filename case or pre-creating the file.It all has to do with the fact that RE does not close the terrtex files when placing manually, and opens them to dis-allow sharing. I suppose this is a form of internal optimization. It is all done differently when initially loaded at startup and as you move around. In a single RE session, if you place a particular terrtex tile ANYWHERE, then you cannot update it during the save at anytime in that same session. You have to exit RE and restart RE. From that point on you can draw and save without a problem. And it can get saved back onto the SAME filename if you desire.Hope the above made sense.Martyn T.
