Hello everyone I am creating a new route, its basicly just a made up american standard one, electric track. There were a few questions that puzzled me while biulding...#1 - When I place crossing gates at a few railroad crossings, cars sometimes don't seem to stop for them giving you the unlovely effect of running over cars that you just seem to pass through, also sometimes the cars stop and when the train passes they never move after the gates rise.#2 - Is it possible to have more than one type of signal at a time?...#3 - When I stop for a station the crossing gates infront of me still stay down but the train isn't moving, how can I cancle this effect just like in the Japan Hakone route?...#4 - How exactly do you texture routes?... whenever I try to texture it comes up with an error saying "Pencil tool cannot draw on compressed textures".and finally...
#5 - I found a free 3D modeler that can export in .3ds format, I created an object there but it only in .3ds format... how can I import that into MSTS? and where do the .ace and .sd files come from?..I know I kind of piled in the questions but its been bugging me for awhile now...
thanks for your help and time...SimBoss

RE: Route Editor Questions...

SimBoss: that's a lot of questions in one post. Let me have a go at those I know something about:>#1 - When I place crossing gates at a few railroad
>crossings, cars sometimes don't seem to stop for them giving
>you the unlovely effect of running over cars that you just
>seem to pass through, also sometimes the cars stop and when
>the train passes they never move after the gates rise. This sounds to me like misplaced level crossings. Try deleting the offending ones and placing new ones: the orange cubes should be wel placed at the intersection of track and road lane.>#2 - Is it possible to have more than one type of signal at
>a time?... Certainly.>#4 - How exactly do you texture routes?... whenever I try to
>texture it comes up with an error saying "Pencil tool cannot
>draw on compressed textures". You can only draw on a terrain texture after you uncompress its *.ace file (they are stored in your route's TERRTEX folder). There was a very useful thread on this in this forum a few weeks ago.

RE: Route Editor Questions...

Ok that fixed the level crossing although I still don't know how to cancle their trigger when a train is stopping at a station. How do I get more than one signal?... currently the only one thats available to me is the Japanese one and the rest of them only appear as "shape files".

So what you're saying is that I have to move all my .ace files from terrex to my texture folder in order to texture terrain?...Also is it possible I could ask someone to make a model for me, I import it and give them credit?... and do modelers create teams to have help and get things done faster?...Thanks very much for the assistance.By the way Michael Vone your routes were awsome! keep up the good work...SimBoss - aka Michael Woods - also aka rocksty_geo

RE: Route Editor Questions...

Michael:To use more signals, you will have to import them from other default routes (copy their *.s, *.sd and *.ace files, together with sig*.dat files). You may well ask exactly which files: that is a more complex story!I think you are getting confused about *.ace files in the TERRTEX and TEXTURES folder. That also is a longer story, especially as I may have misunderstood your earlier question. It sounds like you need step by step instructions! Note that there are very many steps involved in making a route. I have written 388 pages of such steps: see below. If you ask nicely, you may well find people who will make a model for you. But you should give them a very good argument why they should do it for you rather than you doing it yourself. As for teams, just look around this forum and you will see formal and less formal teams discussing their work.Michael Vone

RE: Route Editor Questions...

Alrighty, thanks for the help Michael Vone. I probally won't be buying the guide I feel through experience I can learn these things. not to offend you because through my understanding it IS your guide and its nicely done to, but I just don't want to spend a buck where I can learn for myself.I guess if possible at all I'll join a team that is currently in progress with a project if they'll let me... once again Thanks
