Someone mentioned a batch file to change a number of filed from read only to read write. I had to reinstall msts and i reloaded me route from a cd but all files are read only. I could do it all one at a time but a batch file would be faster.

RE: batch files

Depending upon which OS you have, you can do a complete tree with a single ATTRIB command by using the /S switch (and /D)Do a ATTRIB /? to find out.Martyn T. Griffin

RE: batch files

Download Route-Riter from this site, it has an option to check any Route and make all the files in it Read/Write. I added this option for those who are not comfortable with DOS commands.Actually it does the same thing as Martyn's suggestion above, but without your having to leave Windows.

What's happened to you in this is caused by copying items to a CD, and then copying them back. In the transition, the MS copy procedure changes this Attribute. If it were done with a Back-up program, it would be restored as it was saved.I'm told this works on Win XP. Not sure about the procedure for the other systems. In the explorer window, right-click on the TOP folder of the route you want to make Read/Write. Select Properties. On the bottom where it shows the attributes, Read-Only checked, unselect this (making it Read/Write), and touch Apply. Another window should open asking if you want this to apply to all sub-folder and files. Say yes and OK.This should change ALL sub-folders and files to now be Read/Write. You can then go into a sub-folder and right click on any FILE, select Properties, and see if its attribute is NOT selected as Read Only.If this fails, use Route-Riter as mentioned above to do it.Good luck.

RE: batch files

You can in Explorer highlight or select all of the files in question, right click on one of them, and change the attributes of all selected by changing the one setting.Copying to CD always changes them to read only. I back up to a portable hard drive and have used it several times to restore routes. But, I always keep the CD backups as well just in case the hard drive backup ever gets corrupted.SRV Ron

RE: batch files

When I back up to CD, I zip the files first, then there is no problem with the attributes (and it saves space).
