RE: Why do bad things happen to good crossings?

I had (and have) a few like that on the BlueRidge sub. What I found what that when you place the protection equipment, the orange cube (I think it is orange, maybe yellow) has to be placed in the traveling lane that is protected by the gate or whatever. If it is in the middle, or in the wrong lane, then it will not stop traffic.J. H. Sullivan

Ted, this topic has been covered previously. It has something to do with the shape files bounding box parameter for the vehicle or the crossing itself if I remember correctly. That is what interacts at the level crossing, the bounding boxes for the vehicle and the crossing. When the bounding box parameter shape doesn't match the actual shape of the vehicle this is what you get.
There's also another bug in the BB parameter for one of the larger trucks that causes a vehicle behind the truck to end up inside the body of a truck stopped at a crossing.
There may be a way to correct this by altering the bounding box parameter in the ~.sd file for the vehicle.edit add: In the Sim, at the crossing where you have the problem press the Ctrl and the numeric pad plus (+) key. this will display the bounding box for objects on the tile. You may be able to find the answer this way.As an aside, I have a problem with Tender in tanks answer. Why do you make jokes in response to a serious question?
Ted is trying to find out the answer to a real problem and you come in, wasting bandwidth with something that will not help him and making a joke about it.On top of that you say you never used level crossings so why answer at all if you know nothing about the subject?Your post does nothing to help this gentelman and is a complete waste of storage space on the server.

That bounding box trick didn't seem to work, BUT given the "orange cube" info, I look and sure enuff the cube was no where near the auto traffic path.I removed and re "placed" the crossing and the cube when right to the intersection of the auto traffic and the tracks. Then it worked correctly.Seems that I only have one direction of traffic on that street, and I moved it from one lane to the other *after* placing the crossing. I did that because for some WEIRD reason the auto traffic flows in the OPPOSITE direction of the flowing blue/white stripes in RE.Anyway, all fixed now.Cheers!
