Jul-26-01, 05:11 PM (EST) "placing gantries" I have tried to place gantries on routes which don't have them yet ( e.g. Innsbruck- St. Anton ) after placing catenary.
I used the auto placement function and the gantries show up allright, but for a short distance only...not the complete route !
Anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong ?Ron Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-27-01, 12:36 PM (EST) 2. "RE: placing gantries" When the route map has "spanning" lines you should edit the GANTRY.DAT file and list the gantry types using increasing width ordering.Example: (Using simulated file names to illustrate) GantrySet(
Name ( "Bay Area" )
Style ( 00000001 )
Separation ( 80 )
GantryTable ( 3
GantryTableEntry (
Filename ( "2TrkGantry.s" )
Distance ( 40 )
)
GantryTableEntry (
Filename ( "3TrkGantry.s" )
Distance ( 30 )
)
GantryTableEntry (
Filename ( "4TrkGantry.s" )
Distance ( 20 )
)
)
)That corrects problems with auto placement. There are many things that can be done within the configuration files, but the documentation is not too clear.Jim Steven, MCSE

Jul-27-01, 04:00 PM (EST) 3. "RE: placing gantries" Using this trick, could we also add those many missing catenary masts to the NE corridor and the Tokyo line that came with the game? I hate to see those overhead wires hanging free in midair for miles on end! That would NEVER be possible in reality!BTW, I also noted that on the NE corridor you missed to place a signal gantry entirely. The odd thing is, the signal light "disks" are there, but they, too, are floating freely in midair.
Hope to get some advice...

Jul-27-01, 11:41 PM (EST) 4. "RE: placing gantries" I haven't tried much with the default routes yet.The only thing I've ever done was a "private build" of the tutorial route for a developer's group demo.The route map was completely sabotaged and we burned a CD with the phony route data and placed it in the Product Marketing rep's carrying case.The three marketers were not aware of the switch, but the audience was advised that something would happen and asked to play along.Trains stopped just past the end of the platforms - no matter where you tried to stop.One intersection included an over-animated crossing gate that breaks off. Of course, cars then proceed to cross the train path. With collision data enabled, the trains will derail.And there was a track section that was "padded" using cut and paste so the normal 2 minute leg went for 12 minutes.Lots of fun.To address your question: I think the only concern would be that the route already has gantries on it and to change things you must first remove the old ones.A quirk that I would like to see fixed is the editor will repeatedly place gantries on a map without checking for existing ones.Since the Route Editor supports multiple object selection, you can use SHIFT+CTRL click to select several gantries at a time then press DEL once to kill them as a set.Extended select can't work with road or track pieces since there are a couple of DAT files that would need updating. It would be hard to resequence track vectors if you could delete mid route parts.Jim Steven, MCSE

My problem is slightly different.
I'm using JP1gantry2.s and JP1 gantry4lan.s but the 4 track gantries cover only 3 tracks and leave a large space to one side.
They don't centre on the middle of the 4 tracks. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
