After arrival in Norton, the train was wyed and returned to the CC&O via the InterState R.R. and Miller Yard. The Guest River Extension of the IRR was completed in 1923, and abandoned by the Southern Rwy. around 1980. Today it is a hiking trail, but we can imagine-----.For most of the 15 miles or so from Coeburn to Miller Yard, this track is on a descending 3% grade. This was not a problem, as the coal loads were all going down the hill. Retainers were set up at the top, and used all the way to Miller Yard. At Bangor, VA (just a signpost if that). the IRR converged with the CC&O and ran as double track into Miller Yard, where a connection was made. For a time, L&N crews operated over the IRR into Miller Yard as well. All of the pix. have their own captions. Not all of the line is captured in the Kingsport Sub. simulation, only about 3 miles or so to the "edge of the local world".J.
