Hi I am manually typing markers for a very small route I am making just for practice. Well I have followed every rule given with the help file explaining "How to Create Marker Files". I've doubled, Tripled checked to make sure i had written the mkr file correct and I still end up with no markers. In fact the route editor will not let me turn on the marker option.
Here is what I had made with Windows XP notepad. I saved it as a Unicode and not a text file I saved it using All Files option.SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0I0t____Marker ( -90.8794 38.4764 HWY100 0 )

Marker ( -90.8949 38.4585 2 )
Marker ( -90.8962 38.4571 2 ) can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong or if there is a bug in the game or something? Thanks a lot

RE: Problem with markers

I suspect the all files option? Where are you seeing that? Is that An XP thing? I can't find that in 98SE or MSWORD 2000Saving as a unicode text (wordpad) unicode (MS Word) without any other options should get you a usable file.Make sure no other extensions are added in the name ie *.txt and that the file's name is exactly the same as the route.tdb name only with mkr extension. That's about all I have to offer.

RE: Problem with markers

Yeah...I had that happen one time only. After I discovered that my marker file was not "coded" in unicode. I re-saved in unicode and made sure it had a *.mkr extension. Like the other post said...make sure the marker file has the same exact name as the route.Kip

RE: Problem with markers

The syntax 'looks' good. But MSTS can't read your mind and know if the third parameter is a text display of "2" or the marker type.So Try it like this:Marker ( -90.8794 38.4764 HWY100 0 )
Marker ( -90.8829 38.4767 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8839 38.4734 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8850 38.4722 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8873 38.4711 HwyM 0 )
Marker ( -90.8882 38.4696 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8902 38.4656 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8916 38.4641 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8916 38.4641 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8921 38.4635 westvilla 0 )
Marker ( -90.8936 38.4610 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8936 38.4610 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8949 38.4585 "" 2 )
Marker ( -90.8962 38.4571 "" 2 )And while you are at it, get in the habit of putting quotes around all the text strings, even if there is no blanks etc. It makes it more obvious.Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Problem with markers

Thanks for the replys. I used wordpad and written everying like Martyn showed and saved it as a unicode text file but the route editor still acts like there are no markers. I have installed a few programs that are suppose to make markers, Tiger2Marker, Marker Maker and sdts2mkr could any of them have installed something in the sim that could be causing my problems? I've unistalled all of them and I hadn't used any of them on the route I am trying to make markers for. Thanks again for the helpKevin K

Problem with markers – image 3

I use MakeMarker and it works beautifully. It doesn't install anything in MSTS except the .mkr file. One thing I am wondering. Should there be a line above the marker list indicating how many markers there are in the file. Many of the MSTS file formats use this convention of indicating how many objects are in the list that follows.Cal Rasmussen

RE: Problem with markers

If you have four distinct fields per marker, the format is correct. Quotes are required on parm#3 if blanks or special characters appear, but its a good practice to always use them.USA2 (Marias) has a marker file that works, and it sure looks just like yours.Which leaves only one more conclusion (excluding goblins!) - the lat/lon values are incorrect for where you are looking!Go into RE and move to the place you want a marker. CAREFULLY take note of the lat/long displayed on the screen. Then exit, edit the mkr file for just ONE entry at that spot. Noe try and find it where it should be.Which raises perhaps the obvious question: When in RE under the View menu is the Markers item checked??Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Still not working

Still not working, I went into RE and went to a spot and tpyed the lat/long for that spot in my mkr file just like thisSIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0I0t______Marker ( -90.89991 38.45501 Fillin 1 )I took this mkr file from Maries and redid it and saved it as my routes mkr file. (Using Microsoft Word) Saving it as a Unicode tecx file. I can't see what I'm doing wrong. lol I've also added "" around Fillin and tried it that way. Also when in the RE I have tried to turn on the view Marker option with in the View menu and it simply doesn't turn on, acts like there isn't a mkr file.

RE: Still not working

How about letting us take a look at your file. Marker files usually aren't too large. How about attaching it to your reply or attach it to an email and send it to me direct at jlf@ipa.net

RE: Still not working

Better yet, make sure that the root file name is the same as the name you specified for the route (not necessarily the same as the folder name). It should be the same as the .ref or .tdb file names.Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Still not working

in other words if your Route is Northeast Cirrodor, make sure the *mkr file is NECorid.mkrSame goes for any Custom RouteLets say Reading Railroad, the marker file for that Route would be Reading Railroad.Mkr "Saved in Unicode"Researching the Northeast Corridor Philadelphia Subdivision, and trying to get info on Port Richmond Terminal (Reading Railroad)
