Help! How can we turn this off?? Please?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>>I like the route fine, the thing I really hate is the mandatory horn
>>blast at every crossing. "activity ended: You Failed To Signal at Grade Crossing". >You could go into the Activity Editor, open the Activity in question and set the Player performance values down to 55 or so. This should stop the "no horn, you're fired" message. Or...just make sure to watch for those "W" signs and toot that whistle.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------I tried this, 55 didn't work, 25 didn't work and 0 doesn't work.I just got Cajon Pass and I have a real problem having invested a couple hours in each session being kicked out for not signalling at a grade crossing. I've just gotten into activities, after spending the whole first half of the year repainting.
These engines are beautiful works of art. Along with the American Classics and Sky!Conductor2, it really is quite the model railroad!
But:
This is a long route. More than a couple hours round trip. Too long to be booted out by a grade crossing. I can't think of any others that do this.
So what's the secret? Is there a separate file that controls it? How do you just turn the 'end activity at grade crossing' off??
Thanks,

Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do you – image 2

LAST EDITED ON Oct-12-02 AT 07:35 PM (EDT)

Dadbill-
It's a bit more complicated than that. You need to edit each and every grade crossing that has the feature activated. Once in the route editor go to a grade crossing, select the orange box where tracks cross the road and then right click. A properties box will open up. Click on the level crossing tab and look at the last entry:Crash Probability: 10.0%You need to change that 10.0 to 0. After that click on OK and proceed to the next crossing. Oh, and be sure you check the probabilities for both sets of boxes at the grade crossing. You have to do this for each crossing which is quite tedious because there are MANY grade crossings in the route and not all of them have the probability set to something other than 0. If you don't know your way around the route editor (mainly just selecting objects like the grade crossing boxes) then proceed at your own risk. You may just want to start tootin that horn as you're supposed to. And, thanks for all of the great C&O equipment you have put out. I can't get enough of running your stuff on Sandpatch.Regards,

RE: Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do

It aint gonna be easy but you can try this if you want. step 1 : back up the world files to a safe place.
step 2 : open a world file in wordpad, then use the search function to find "LevelCr"
step 3 : change CrashProbability( 10 ) to CrashProbability( 0 )
step 4 : repeat for every instance in the file.
step 5 : save the file, repeat for all world files .>>> sample world file <<<LevelCr (
UiD ( 21 )
LevelCrParameters ( 10 20 )
>>>><<>>> CrashProbability ( 10 ) <<<< change this line to 0
LevelCrData ( 00000000 2 )
LevelCrTiming ( 10 10 4 )
TrItemId ( 0 661 )
TrItemId ( 0 662 )
TrItemId ( 1 246 )
TrItemId ( 1 247 )
FileName ( 3dts_cross_gate.s )
Position ( -996.95 685.571 237.088 )
QDirection ( 0 0.207912 0 0.978148 )
VDbId ( 4294967295 )
)
If you feel lucky you might do a search and replace but I don't know if any other objects use that parameter name. A better way would be to write a program to do it for you in about 30 seconds. There are a few bit twiddlers in here that might want to help out.

RE: Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do

Hi,Hobart as far as I know, the LevelCrossing is the only one that uses CrashProbability.I have a quick and dirty VBScript that can find the worldfiles with the LevelCrossings. You still have to change the worldfiles manually.I don't have the CanyonPass route, so I cannot run it.
But when someone familiar with VB or VBScript wants to have it, let me know.Dick van den HovenCajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do you – image 7

Thanks, you guys! After six hours of editing the 345 w files in the world folder, I found 68 that controlled the horn, and tamed Cajon Pass. I apologize to the creators, but I like to stay running for hours.
Thanks Again,

I agree, after doing yard work and getting the work order right I hate to be thrown out for a small infraction like forgetting to blow the whistle at a grade crossing.I don't suppose that you kept track of the 68 file names that you changed to tame the pass?I'm also willing to try Dick's VBScript to find the files with LevelCrossings. Go to the C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftGames\TrainSimulator\Routes\Cajon\World directory, and in each of the files in the list below, you will need to find a line that says "CrashProbability ( 10 )". Change them to a "CrashPorbability ( 0 )". Each file must be resaved using an editor capable of Unicode -- such as Wordpad, or in Windows XP, Notepad will work.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The following .w files have TWO (2) "CrashProbability (10)" lines:w-012803+014042 w-012803+014044 w-012805+014045w-012806+014041 w-012806+014045 w-012807+014040w-012807+014045 w-012809+014038 w-012810+014038w-012812+014046 w-012814+014023 w-012814+014024w-012815_014034 w-012816+014027 w-012816+014029w-012816+014030 w-012820+013998 w-012820+014003w-012821+014005 w-012821+014019 w-012822+014012w-012823+014017 w-012823+014018 w-012824+014019w-012826+014020 w-012826+014049 w-012826+014049w-012827+014021 w-012892+014049 w-012830+014022w-012843+014049 w-012847+014050 w-012848+014024w-012849+014024 w-012849+014050 w-012850+014034w-012850+014035 w-012850+014039 w-012850+014040w-012850+014041 w-012851+014029 w-012851+014030The following .w files have FOUR (4) "CrashProbability ( 10 )" lines:w-012820+013999 w-012822+014006 w-012824+014009w-012843+014024 w-012844+014024 w.012851+014027The following .w files have SIX (6) "CrashProbability ( 10 )" lines:w-012851+014026The following .w files have FOUR (4) "CrashProbability ( 10 )" lines,

and THREE (3) are already altered:w-012851+014033
The above list may not be complete -- it is very tedious going through each and every file in the folder. I have run every bit of the Cajon Pass route since I modified the above files on my system and haven't gotten shut down yet. I am NOT responsible for errors.ALSO!
Something I noticed in the Cajon/Routes/World folder:
There are files with extension .w, .ws, and .bk The .w and .ws files
MUST stay. I deleted the .bk files and have had NO problems. I also
gained 17.5 megabytes of space back!!!

Good work Shoskins - it is damn tedious job but it had to be done.I did mine tonight and I have found three that do not seem to be in your listw-012816+014018
w-012841+014024
w-012843+014049There is also one there which does not exist and maybe a typo (at least I hope it is as I haven't got that file )w-012892+014049 Any one who wants a print out of my list it is as an attachment in RTF format.I will also post a thread in the MTS forum linking to this thread.Bill

Too Little Too LateI just completed my conversion at 6PM, about the same time as Shoskins uploaded his message. I found 68 files which is the same number as Dadbill who started this thread. Now that you've gone to all of this trouble, don't forget to save the altered files in a zip so that you can fix this again if you ever have to re-install the Cajon Pass. I have created a zip with a readme which I will upload to train-sim.com next week when I get access to a T1 line. It's 1.7Mb and would take me all night to upload from the boonies.

Way to go, you guys! I thought I was the only one who was interested in this fix, but apparently there is a growing interest. Maybe in the future a batch file could be included in these routes so you can switch the grade crossing off or on.

Not sure what you mean by too little too late .It was no real trouble, just tedious. Took about an hour and a half after working out a semi automated process for it. Had already worked out that any file under 30KB plus the BK and WS files wouldn't need altering.Strange how you and dadbill found 68 though. I was meticulous in the checking but only altered the crashprobability from 10 to 0. Run a lot of the route with no problems.Just a thought - this is a payware route and an extract from the EULA reads "This software may not be copied or distributed, in whole or in part, to any format, including digital media, without the express written permission of 3D Train Stuff."Bill

RE: Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do

Sorry, the reference to "Too Little Too Late" was in regard to my efforts and the fact that if I had just waited a little I would have been able to deal with the specific files that needed adjusting instead of having to open all 354 of them and search for LevelCr.After excluding the .bk files, I found 53 .w files which had one or more signals with the CrashProbability set to 10. There were also a couple which were already set to 0 so the developers at 3DTS missed some.Good point about the Copyright issue, I will check with 3DTrainStuff before I upload anything. Although, the only people who could use the adjusted .w files would be those who have purchased the route. We do need a batch file to turn this feature on and off like the ones Rich Garber includes with his routes to change the track textures and automobile vintage.

RE: Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do

I agree about a batch file but do not believe it would be possible due to the files being compressed. What would be useful would be a facility in Route Riter where this could be done - i.e. uncompress, a global search and replace and compress. One would have to absolutely sure to take a copy of the folder before altering .Bill

RE: Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do

I was thinking mostly in terms of having two folders of the same files, (as I do in most of my engines to swap textures) you would have a batch file that copies the files out of the folder to deactivate the crossing- or a batch file to re-activate the crossing, easy! The only issue would be the disk space you use up for the extra two folders.

I wish they would give us activity developers a set of files without it. It is very tedious running the route over and ever working out the kinks in an activity. Sandpatch is a lot worse by far. there are a couple that crop up that I have yet to find so I quit messing with activities for it. Cajon has them in easy to find places so it is quite a bit easier to run.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Cajon Pass Manditory Grade Crossing Signal: How do

I'm not yet finished testing, but I believe those with Win 2000 and XP may be able to use the Administrative Tool "Indexing Service" to find anything of that sort automatically--after some preliminary set-up and learning-curve climbing. The Indexing Service is somewhat for bit-twiddlers insofar as it's somewhat difficult to grasp but if I can do it . . .As I type this, I am building an index of all files in my route folder. (It's happening in the background). When finished, I should be able to search for "US2cow" "CrashProbability" or any other string across all routes fairly quickly and automatically although, listing every file containing the reference.I've told it to index even files with unknown extensions within that folder and subfolders, which should get the ".w" and ".ws" files along with all the rest. The Catalog (as it's called) for the route folder is approaching 250 Megs but I'll likkely find it useful enough to let it grow to a Gig before I re-think this methodology.I'll report back when it's all finished, and share what I've learned and discovered--unless, of course, someone with experience in the Indexing area wants to jump in.For the record, until I thought of this use for it, my indexing service was turned of, and set to manual start. The default "Index the whole friggin' computer" setting was also removed so I now index only my route folder. If it works, I may also index "Trains" or . . .??--

I'm glad you mentioned that this is an issue in Sandpatch. I was just about to order it and now I'll wait. I read in a review of the German Railroads Vol 1 that this also happens so I'll avoid that one too. This should be controlled by the game settings just like the alerter is and also applies to red signals. I hate spending hours on an activity to have it prematurely ended because of a small oversight. Give me a warning or something and then let the sim continue.

Yes, Bill, Windows can often hold some happy surprises. For the record, my "Routes" index size ended at 380Meg, after indexing 5.22 Gigs of Routes (alone) and the 56,505 route files in 538 Folders. Indexing the first time took maybe 15 minutes total including automatic pauses for when I moved the mouse or did something. As a side benefit, the index is dynamic in that it keeps itself updated without user intervention so no worries about adding or subtracting things. It's SnagIt, Bill. Highly recommended although there are slicker (and more expensive) options out there. You will be in awe of what this program can do (including capturing entire scrolling things).http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.aspT Weed
