Jul-23-01, 00:53 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Missing track" Surprise! There is none by that name living here. Just another little easter egg in the long list that goes with this program. If ther is a good work-around and you find it, post it here!David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Also notice that this track has the "mainline" designation; only he AI can control this turnout as a result. Strange for a "yard" turnout. The author of an activity I downloaded claims that this turnout is completely broken, in that for whatever reason even the AI cannot switch it. There's a few of these on the branch line in Marias, and from what I saw the guy was right.Bottom line -- I'd pick a different turnout.

Jul-23-01, 01:50 PM (EST) 4. "Here's a list of known Missing track items you DO have" There are MANY missing pieces and you DO have them, but they're not in the master list for the train tracks (in globals folder)Here are some that have "S" files in the Global\Shapes folder, but aren't enabled. If you just want to see them in the Route Editor rather than editing the Track list, add a static object entry like this:Static(
Class("_MissingItems")
FileName(A1tdblslip10d.s)
Align(None)
Description("1 Trk Double Slip")
)
a1tUKBuffer
One track United Kingdom buffer section (track end piece)
a2t10PedesCrs
2 trk pedestrian X-ing. Similar to level crossing but the crossing space is visibly narrower.
a1tPnt5dRgtMnl
Point 5 degree right manual switch
a1t1500r10dRgtTun
1500 M 10 degree right bend tunnel
Source files are on CD #1 in \LocFiles\Global\Shapes
File A1t150_2.s --> a1t1500r10dRgtTun.S
File a1t150_2.sd --> a1t1500r10dRgtTun.SD
a1t2000r10dTun 2000M 10 degree bent tunnel
a1t2000r20dTun 2000M 20 degree bent tunnel
a1t250r5d 1 trk 250M 5 degree bend
a1t250r10d 1 trk 250M 10 degree bend
a1t250r20d 1 trk 250M 20 degree bend
a1tDblSlip10dMnl 1 track double-slip (crossover) 10 degrees
a1tDblSlip10d 1 track double-slip (crossover) 10 deg Manual
a1tPnt2_5dRgtMnl 0.25 Right switch
a1tSglSlip10d 1 track single-slip (crossover) 10 degrees
a1tSglSlip10dMnl 1 track single-slip (crossover) 10 deg Manual
a2t250r5dTun 2 Track 250M 5 degree radius tunnel
a2tSkewLft The missing 2 Track SKEW left for the skew right

Jul-23-01, 04:54 PM (EST) 7. "Adding Tracks to the software" The game reads a file named TSECTION.DAT in the Globals folder. That file is a listing of track types in the game with hard-coded ID's and it tells the software about how many paths a track piece has.There's a document in the TechDocs folder that tells how to add track sections to the game. There are specific rules about making it work.Before deciding to embark on editing a file that existing routes depend on, some people might want to look at the shapes that will become available. That helps you determine the values that go into the TSECTION.DAT element list.So the simplest way to show a static, non-interactive shape in the game is to insert it as a STATIC item in the REF document.Here's a sample:
Static(
Class ("_Missing_Items")
FIleName(a2t10pedescrs.s)
Align(none)
Description("2x Track Pedestrian Crossing")
)
If you put this in any route's REF document, the object will display in the Route Editor. I use an underline as the first character because the list box sort will put the item at the end of the object listing.Since these vehicles are static items, they can be cut and pasted into your REF as is:Static(
Class("Vehicles")
FileName(US2MainTrain.s)
Align(none)
Shadow(None)
Description("RR Track Bed Graveler")
)
Static (
Class ( "Vehicles" )
Filename ( JP2TrackRepair.s )
Align ( None )
Description ( "RR Track Repair" )
)
Static (
Class ( "Vehicles" )
Filename ( US2TrackTruck.s )
Align ( None )
Description ( "RR Track Truck" )
)
Static (
Class ( "Vehicles" )
FileName ( US2Logger.s )
Shadow ( RECT )
Align ( None )
Description ( "RR Logger" )
)
Static (
Class ( "Aliens" )
FileName ( us2ufo.s )
Shadow ( None )
Align ( None )
Description ( UFO )
Anim()
)Dependent Files
===============
Use the Windows Explorer "Find files or folders..." utility to locate the "S" "SD" and "ACE" files for these things.If the shape has no SD file, make sure the "S" and "ACE" files are where they belong, then drop the shape in the Route Editor. Allow it to say show the Error: No extended shape..." message and continue.Find some existing shape that is similar in size. Copy its "SD" file and edit the copy to point to the shape that was missing one.JP2TrackRepair has an SD file and two ACE files (Normal and Snow) and the SD file must be created manually."MainTrain" needs two ACE texture files US2MainTrain1 and US2MainTrain2.The spaceship that's part of the "easter egg" needs "US2UFO.ACE" and should have an SD created for it. Turn on the "Animate" object property and set detail level to 10.Place it while in the editor and keep working. It periodically flies away and returns to wherever you are when you're editing.

Jul-23-01, 09:35 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Adding Tracks to the software" Oops - sorry about my assumption.Look on the Original game CD one. That has a TechDocs folder on it, and the folder contains a compressed archive (WinZip or something other than Phil Katz (PKZip).I extracted mine to a "Train Sim\Help" folder.Just don't get your hopes up too high about that documentation. I've read better technical docs from co-workers who use MS Outlook.Jim Steven, MCSE
