With all the upgrades that you guys have come up with, Xtracks, utilities, manipulating files and such, do you think there would even be a need for an "MSTS 2" from microsoft?

RE: MSTS 2

No matter what addons the wizards out there can produce, not one of them can fix the shoddy (being polite) game engine in MSTS. THAT is where MS/KUJU should concentrate their efforts.Ray

RE: MSTS 2

How long ago was Flight Simulator released? 10 years ago? Has all the third-party "stuff" stopped MS from update/upgrading/fixing FS?Lawrence

I think they should re-do the entire MSTS program from bottom up and try to do better, with FS I think all they do is just add-on from year to year. I could be wrong here Im just aiming in the dark.

RE: MSTS 2

Better Route Editor that doesn't crash and destroy your route, ability to build looping routes, working turntables for the roundhouses, DEM Data being able to be imported as part of the packaged program, Real World Weather for the routes (could use Flight Simulators database for this), use your current system date and time to set the environmental conditions, ability to have multiple cars with passenger views in a train and be able to switch between the different passenger views of the cars while running the program (ie, move from the observation car to the dome car), a more user friendly consist editor that lets you both add and remove cars easily and is run from within the main program and not the activity editor, an ability to set the environmental conditions that you wish to run in that is part of the main program, and more accurate default routes. The NEC has been rebuilt several times at this point because of it's inaccuracies as has the Marias Pass route. Don't get me wrong, MSTS is a great program and I am glad that we have it compared to what was available previously, but it does have room for improvement and some of the things that need to be fixed will require rebuilding the program. I just hope that when they do that Microsoft makes sure that all of the great add on trains and routes that are currently available will work with the new program. It would be a real shame if the work already done was lost because it wasn't compatible with MSTS 2. George.

RE: MSTS 2

We already know that the game engine itself needs to be rewritten to eliminate the bottlenecks we have now. The other areas though that would be nice for them to change are as follows.1)Adding more capabilities to the activity editor such as having more control over the AI train. Nothing like having an AI train come in, leave a car behind and leave.2)Finishing up what they started such as freight animation (coal, etc). The animation for the most part is only for fuelcoal. It appears as if they were going to do something for freight, but just did not have the time to finish.3) The route editor of course is extremely important.4) Expanding the scripting information for the cars and the locmotives for even more realistic operation (If this is possible).
Of course my little list as well as everyone else's is nothing if Kuju is not given enough time to get the job done right.

RE: MSTS 2

Would be nice to be a bit more formal in compiling a list of 'doable' improvements, ranking them in importance to the overall quality of the experience (and therefore $$$). In dealing with MS in the past, I have found it is almost never too late (despite their comments to the contrary) to have some influence on product capabilities, especially on one this small. More often than not, the capability is essentially developed but left off when there is no driving motivation (vs other features).Martyn T. Griffin
