I've been going over the CTSRR after taking care of some track database problems to eliminate those annoying terrain spillovers. I've run across one section of track that seems to be floating about a foot above the grade. Using the "Y" key doesn't do any good - a separation between ground and track still remains.Anyone know any tricks to fixing this problem, or do I have to go along the track and do it manually?Andy

RE: Floating Track Problem

Andy, you could try placing a piece of track (or road) about a foot above the existing track, and then hit the Y key, and see what happens.

You could also hit "w" for wireframe mode and then F9 for terrain height manipulation and manually adjust the terrain height.Cal Rasmussen

RE: Floating Track Problem

A good idea, Chuck. I'll see if it works later this evening. It would be nice to know if there were a reason for this. I do tend to see it more where I've used relatively long pieces of dynamic track, like with sections that use 2 curves for a single dynamic track piece, rather than breaking it up into 2 different pieces. I am hesitant to break these up to see if that makes a difference, given the troubles I've had with the track database. I think some of those difficulties have come about because of all the dynamic track in the route.I don't think the gang at KUJU/MS thought that anyone would be crazy enough to use as much dynamic track as I did on the Cumbres, so the RE seems pretty sensitive to changes to dynamic track once the majority of the route is in place. Andy, this is kind of combining the above solutions and what I had to end up doing on mine in one place. I was using a width of 12 and couldn't get it to lay down, period.I changed to a width=10, with embankment and cut set at 80, used a 10 meter section about 3 feet above the existing tracks, pressed Y and it brought it up over the tracks. Then went back, set width, embankment, cut to what I was using before and selected track, press Y until it was laying down correctly. I ended up having to change my width to 14 in place of 12 for that one section to get it to work correctly.

RE: Floating Track Problem

Thanks, Robert. I'll try out these suggestions and see what happens. I've tried to stay with a width of 10 and cut/fill = 65 to 75 for most of the route, especially in the mountains. It looks like I may need to extend that a bit to get the track to stay on the ground.Andy

RE: Floating Track Problem

It looks like you have a lot of good suggestions already but here is another. The last time this happened to me it had to do with the floor and ceiling for the tile. The terrain was at the tile ceiling at that location and 'y' couldn't raise it above that point. This setting is in the tile properties section - right click on the tile while holding the terrain texturing tool.Wayne

I have a related problem. Two parallel tracks very close to each other at different elevations. I have tried setting width to 10 and cutting/embankment to 85 and still wind up with either the lower track buried or the upper track floating. I think I am going to leave the upper track floating and build a concrete retaining wall to hide it.Cal Rasmussen

RE: Floating Track Problem

You can try SRVWall1.zip They are six different styles of straight sections suitable from seawalls to riprap and retaining walls. They are also easy to make if you have a suitable texture.SRV Ron
