I need to acquire, make, steal, liberate, or otherwise use the same texture as is found in the US2PinkRock.ace texture. Has anyone worked out a way to convert an ace file to a tif, or bmp file so it can then be used to texture other objects. I want to use the same texture on a tunnel portal as is used on the tile item, so that it will blend in with the surrounding rock texture.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. (retired)

RE: Need a little help-----------

All ya gotta do is convert the texture ACE to a BMP file. Load into the paint program. Cut and paste, clone or whatever and make your textures from the BMP template. TGA Tools is required to do this. I just got done re-doing all the snow textures in the Terratex folder...whew! Big chore.Kip

RE: Need a little help-----------

You need TGATool 2. I can't recall the exact URL to the website, but a search of the Library files or doing a Google search ought to fill the bill.TGATool 2 is the most used utility I've downloaded. It's straightforward, but be aware of the options in which to export.PinkRock, eh? Sounds like a rock for a sissy's route. Ain't gonna' be no sissy stuff on the KP Sub is there? Andre

RE: Need a little help-----------

Here's the URL for TGATool2:http://fly.to/mwgfx/Once you get it downloaded, you'll want to open the .ace file, click on "Image" and "send main image to editor." If it has an alpha channel (you'll see this black and white image in the upper right hand corner of the TGATool main screen) you'll want to click on "Image" and then "send alpha channel to editor." It will ask you which editor you'll want to use (Paint, PhotoShop, PaintShop, etc). Once you get both the image and the alpha channel into the editor (the alpha channel is the black and white one), select the marquee tool and highlight the alpha channel. Click "Copy" and then click on the image. Create a new channel for that image (each program is different on how to do this) and paste the alpha onto the black space. Now save the whole image as a 32 bit tga file (I usually name it the same as the ace file I'm working with, esp if the particular object has more than one ace file associated with it). Then you can edit it til your hearts content. If the original ace file doesn't have an alpha, or you're working with Paint (which can't save as tga files), save the image as a bmp file and edit til your hearts content. Once you're finished, load the tga or bmp file into TGATool2 and export it as an ace file, overwriting the original ace file. Now you're done!

RE: Need a little help-----------

Been looking over that idea myself, as a way to save space in the download.Need a little help – image 4What I did here was decompressed the .s files for the sawdust piles and the OE rock footbridge, made clones of the shapes, and referenced a non-existent PONrock.ace. Then add a line to the install batch file:CALL COPY .\terrtex\po4rock.ace .\Textures\PONrock.ace
CALL COPY ..\USA2\terrtex\Snow\US2pinkrock.ace .\Textures\Snow\PONrock.aceStrikes me you could do the same, whatever the name of the ace file that the shape calls for, just make a bat file to create it from US2pinkrock. For example, if the shape is looking for "JoesRock.ace", you would add the lines:CALL COPY ..\USA2\terrtex\US2pinkrock.ace .\Textures\JoesRock.ace
CALL COPY ..\USA2\terrtex\Snow\US2pinkrock.ace .\Textures\Snow\JoesRock.aceThat might or might not be what you're looking for, depending on the shape and different facets of the shape the texture may not skin the way you want it, in which case using TGAtool2 to create a new texture from a portion of US2pinkrock would have to be done anyway to make it fit. Notice in the screenshot the rock piles look different from the rock terrain, that's because the texture stretches more across a 2.2KM square than it does around a 30 meter rock shape. The texture would look sharper like that around a small tunnel entrance object, but depending on how sharp the contrast was you might like the effect.
