The surveying crew went back and checked all of the curves from Sandy Ridge Tunnel, south to St.Paul, VA, including all tracks in Dante Yard (installed so far i.e.).In all cases, it was found that there was a slight difference in the length of the concentric curves as might be expected, and a slight difference in gradient. In all cases, a perfect match was demanded and obtained on the mainline and good +- matches on yard and siding tracks. There are two exceptions that could not be fixed, but as these are in slow areas, it should not pose a problem. The reverse curves along Lick Creek just south of Hamlin, VA, and the one curve near the middle of Boody, also the West Leg of the Wye at East St.Paul.In a number of cases, where the curve was sharp (150m radius or less), long (1.4 (radians I guess) or more) and steep (.6 gradient, not percent, or more), the curve was broken into 2 or 3 pieces. When this was done, the curve could be constructed with slightly less gradient and still match the pieces on the ends. So, here are four pix. A magnificent train-set of future passenger equipment has been leased (truth to tell, such equipment was run on the CC&O in the early 90s, 1990s i.e. once or twice) and a bunch of professional railfans are making their way over the line (by fits and starts). Each pix has its own caption, so I will just attach in sequence.J. Oh boy, oh boy, oh BOY!!! Can't wait to download this route and complete my Clinchfield system! That Dante area is looking SO good. I'm going to HAVE to find a copy of Steve King's "Clinchfield Country" so I can make me some more Clinchfield stuff!!Thank you Jerry for working so hard on this!Curious: It will have to be a seperate route from the BR Sub, right? (I still don't know much about these things.) If seperate, will this route also contain and start at Erwin? Andre "Coonskin" Ming

Re: Coonskins comment,It will have to be a seperate route because as far as I know (and the matter has been picked at by users smarter than I) you cannot combine routes together. However, I plan to use the same test consists for this route, when it is uploaded, as the other, so that the last zip file will be the same (but with different name of course) than the last zip of the BR sub. That is mainly to assist the newbies that come up with it.It does take time - and as my ordination is next week, my official duties will take precedence for the next 3 years - though in fact, I visited a friend in the hospital who is on my family list yesterday - he had a kidney transplant 3 days ago. I think I ran iterations of the curves between Hamlin and St. Paul 4 or 5 times before I was satisfied. There are some tricks. If you break a long curve into 3 or 4 shorter pieces, then generally, it takes less gradient per piece to get the "drop" or "rise" that you got with the long curve. Hence it is important to make that change as you go, otherwise, vast amounts of iterations may be required. It may have been easier to have done this one over from scratch, but it is too late now. Last night, I completed the east wye at St.Paul, and extended the N&W around to the east about a mile, mostly a 4 track yard area, but then there will be about 3 miles of single track, and a bridge over the Clinch R. before running off the edge of the local "world".J. "Curious: It will have to be a seperate route from the BR Sub, right? (I still don't know much about these things.) If seperate, will this route also contain and start at Erwin?"Yes and Yes. I've seen the previews! BTW, Andre, I DO live in Unicoi. I've lived within a mile of the CRR most of my life (with the exception of while I was in college), but it went out of existence when I was 7 (about 8 years before my interest in trains was sparked). My parents house is about 1/2 mile from the tracks, then I moved to about 100 yards of the mainline with my wife, and then moved again to my current house which is about 50 feet from the mainline. We're pretty friendly down here, so you can wave at all of us on your way through town and we'll probably wave back! (Just don't lay on the horn between 10pm and 8am, OK? ).
