I am completely unfamiliar with route editing. So if this sounds crazy please bare with me. I just love the Cajon route. But I always want to go beyond the end of track at Barstow. Is it possible to join a different route to this end of track? Such as the Raton line that is downloadable. If it is, what do I have to do to join these routes? I know that this is bizare since I'd be missing most of the California desert and all of Arizona and most of New Mexico! But Raton is the only other part of the BNSF(Santa Fe) mainline avaliable at this time.Is it possible to build the actual remaining California desert east section? Do I need a special 3D program or is the route editor like Sim City or something where you plot things on a grid?
You're not the first to ask about joining routes end to end, if you search the archives there's a fairly lengthy thread somewhere back in time. If I remember right, the upshot was that it's possible, but very difficult and not something that could be done with finished routes. Sorry I can't give you a search term, maybe someone else can. Sure it's possible to build the tracks between the end of the cajon route and the start of raton, just like any other route. You'd need to download an awful lot of digital elevation maps and use demex to apply them to your routes tiles, though. Or you could select the cajon route from the rge to add tiles to it and extend it, just make sure you have a backup copy of cajon in case anything goes wrong, you wouldn't want to have to download it all over again.
Simple answer: No.Why? As is mentioned above, it is quite difficult to merge two routes, the main reason being that they MUST be adjacent geographically. And that's just the start. So the simple answer is no.However, you do have the option of manually extending it.Lawrence
