Snow White Ground in PO&N5 in Summer – image 2

I finally bit the bullet and installed Xtracks. It took two tries. On the first attempt, I thought Horace was hung and aborted it. I tried again and it appeared to hang again after displaying the tsection build number. I aborted again. At this point, I decided to remove Xtracks and start over again. I deleted the Global folder and copied the backup into place. I then decided to test a few different routes to make sure everythin was OK. I tried my own route, Columbia Gorge and everthing appeared ok. I tried Marias Pass (original), Sea View 2, and PO&N5. All was well except PO&N5. In that route, no terrain textures were visible. The ground was all white. All scenery, track, etc. were ok. Not wanting to spend a lot of time troubleshooting, I deleted the route and reinstalled it. Everything was normal this time.I then tried installing Xtracks again and this time gave Horace more time. It worked as advertised and no casualties. I suspect the problem with PO&N5 had nothing to do with Xtracks. I hadn't run the route for awhile and a lot has happened on my computer in the interim. Does anyone have any ideas what happened so I know what to check if I encounter it again.

Hi Cal,After you run Horace on a particular route, you should then open the route in the RE, click the Advanced button and rebuild the track-database.You did not say you had done this, and the first time I ran Horace, I omitted that step and ended up with a route with all the dynamic track missing, and a nice textureless background.Seems similar to your PO&N ?

RE: Snow White Ground in PO&N5 in Summer

You should NOT use Horace on routes other than those you're going to add tracks to using the RE!
Cal, the XTracksRef route is intended for reference only, not much point in doing activities for it but if you want to drive around sure, be my guest.

The only route I Horace'd was Columbia Gorge. The "problems" I spoke of were waiting for Horace to scan the routes. It took much longer than I expected. I still think the white terrain on PO&N5 had nothing to do with Xtracks.

RE: Snow White Ground in PO&N5 in Summer

Probably not. I got that with the blue ridge route recently, it usually indicates a corrupted quad tree (\TD folder), and haven't gotten around to re-downloading the route again. How or why the quad tree files get corrupted is still a total mystery, but if you look closely the terrain is actually transparent rather than white.

RE: Snow White Ground in PO&N5 in Summer

I've installed X-Tracks 3.3 and have the latest TSection.dat file (build #9) installed, in addition to the six default MSTS routes. I created a new route from scratch, no scenery or anything, just a few km's of track (mostly straight) and some switches. I know dynamic track can be a problem for non-xtracks routes in the RE, but how do you use dynamic track in a new X-Tracks route? When I select objects to be placed, I get a list of regular track pieces along with the X-Tracks pieces, but the dynamic track pieces list is empty. Do I need to copy some shape files from another directory and if so which one? Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

Dynamic track does not exist as an object in the global\shapes folder. It is hard coded in RE. There is only one. The easiest way to find it once Xtracks is installed is to bring up the list of track sections, click on anything in the list and hit "d". You will be pointing at dynamic track. Click OK.

RE: Snow White Ground in PO&N5 in Summer

XTracks does not do anything with the dynamic track section as regarding the object selector. The dynamic track section can be listed in different places, I have it in a class of it's own 'dynamic track', others have it among the 'track sections'. Where dynamic track is listed depends on your routes ref-file. I think it's possible to not list it at all if you delete it from the ref-file.
