Hey gang...what's the end result here..anyone tried this before?..What was your overall result..any troubles down the road? You all know I want as much detail in this GM&O route as I can get without causing major troubles, and you all have read my problem posts about not being able to add objects without crashing the RE...let me run this by you route builders...:I removed the boardering world file that had the most objects placed in it. I then opened RE and started to edit a busy tile next to the removed world files, and, was able to add much to it and it saved ok.I then replaced the neighboring world files, which were full of objects to the point of crashing the RE (but does'nt yet)..and ran a train...WALAH!It ran!...with all objects placed. "BUT", I cannot go back in and edit either tile without first removing the adjacent (object-full) tile.Now..am I asking for MSTS troubles when trying to run trains on this kind of construction?..(doing it this way I mean?)Have any of you done this? What was your end result?Have I found a way around the "object count" problem?...OR..Have I just created a whole new problem area...I'm all ears gang... Please..someone else try this..and let me know what you think. Thanks folks!

RE: BOARDERING WORLD FILE REMOVED...then I could place

Maybe they're afraid of being too close when it explodes?I'd like to help you, but I've been too busy programming
to actually place more than a few objects, so if you'll
excuse me I'm going to find someplace safer to stand.

Well, if it works, do it! Just back up more often than you usually do Since I don't know much of anything in the area, and therefore don't have a reputation to lose, I'd say you're probably reasonably safe doing this. Running the actual sim seems a bit more stable than being in RE mode. Of course, you could end up building a route that requires a minimum of an Athlon XP or P4 and Geforce4 (non MX) or a Radeon 9700, but setting a good bit of the objects with reasonably high detail levels ought to allow everyone to at least run the route, if not in it's full glory.

Sorry, I haven't.You have taken the "move the world file" one step farther than I believe anyone else has. I have only moved it for diagnostic work, not to supersede the limits of the program.Lawrence

RE: BOARDERING WORLD FILE REMOVED...then I could place

Sorry: for me to try answering will require some clarifications!>... boardering world file ...
What does boardering mean?

>... next to the removed world files ...
I thought you removed just one, not several. >I then replaced the neighboring world files ...
What do you mean by replace, and which neighboring files do you mean?Perhaps a diagram showing tiles would help? Michael Vone

Well, I'll take a crack at explaining it. Let's consider nine files, A-I. The tiles they represent are shown below.
A B C
D E F
G H I
I believe what Paul has done to date is that he was working on B and filled it up. He then moved to E to work on it, and couldn't. So he removed B temporarily. Since the sim seems to keep track of all the tiles surrounding E, and B was the only really full one, removing it helped get the total object count that the sim was keeping track of down. Theoretically, to work on E, you could remove A-D and F-I and then have the most available resources possible. His question boils down to whether this is a good idea or not, since if you manage to pack every tile full, then that's a lot more objects for the sim to keep track of than anyone's tried before.Of course, I could have this all wrong in which case Paul is going to have to share what is actually going on.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-30-02 AT 02:04 PM (EDT)

You have to think that the RE expresses itself with the limits for some reason other than its getting tired. So it may still be possible to crash or confuse the sim under a number of circumstances that haven't been test yet, so go carefully. Also, this would make editing changes that are on the tile edges (and overlapping) a bit tricky, wouldn't it? I can think of no worse combination than having a hunk of dynamic track crossing over the boundary of a suddenly missing tile. Martyn T. Griffin

>griffinmt@mindspring.com Not necessarily. Remember, that for each piece of track, its information is stored in two places: the World file for the visual part and the *.tdb/*.rdb for the path the train travels. Removing the World file only removes the visual part. Therefore, any track or anything else for that matter that crosses into the "non-existing" world file *shouldn't* be problematic.I believe that at this point, Paul is laying scenery, so any trackage that crosses into a "non-existing" world tile won't be a problem.Lawrence

Thanks Lawrence and everyone else too..It is give and take..as someone else said in another post...the RE has a mind of it's own..and will allow a alot..then won't allow anything at all..depends on what day of the month...(OOPS)"YOU CAN'T SAY THAT...HE CAN'T SAY THAT!"....."DOWN PASCLE!"("DOWN PERISCOPE")
