I an having troubles with objrcts not listed in the route editor object placement dropdown. If I edit a route included with MSTS all are there, but when making a new route only a few are offered. No buildings or other scencery. It gives me some road selections but they don't show up when sim runs??? Any help would be welcome. Thanks. Ed Gallis
That's because new routes are generated from a template, with only a few objects pre-installed. Additional objects need to be installed. For individual objects, this means the .s and .sd files go in the shapes folder, with their associated textures in the textures folder, then you have to have an entry for the object in the routes .ref file, which is in the root folder of the new route. There are also batch files available to copy all the objects from the six routes that come with msts into the new route, I'm not sure if it's stuffit or route-riter though.

The route editor defaults to detail level 10, so any object you place will be visible in the route editor. The sim has some auto settings depending on your computer speed and graphics card, you need to manually reset those by running trainsim, go to options, advanced display, and set the "world objects density" slider to 10. If that slider is set to 6 or below, roads and other objects won't be seen in the game.
Search the file library for Stuffit which is Jim Ward's batch file which will copy most of the default objects and textures into your new route for you and provide a default .ref file for your route. It also includes new forest.dat files etc. After that, download Route-Riter, it contains a lot of tools for Route authors and enables you to package your route without all the extra files which Stuffit places in your route.
