What's the best way to place a bridge and make the necessary terrain adjustments? I need to copy a situation in which a fill and girder bridge have been constructed, as shown in the first picture below. On my route, as shown in the second picture below, I have already put in the fill and laid track on it, but so far no bridge or removal of terrain under it. If necessary, I can back up to a point of having no fill, if that would provide for a better order of doing things. Just don't know what my options are or which one might be best. Here's what I need and what I have:
I would start by positioning a 10 meter straight section of track perpendicular to the fill, lined up with the road. Set the cut and embankment angles to 85 degress (the maximum RE will accept) and width to 10. Hit the "y" key. With any luck, you will have an opening for your bridge that is just about the right size and shape. If you don't like it, you can hit the "`" key to undo it. You might need to make the width narrower. When you get it the way you want, delete the 10 meter track section and place the bridge. You will need to do some manual terrain adjustment with F9 and wireframe mode when you are done. Cal Rasmussen Beaverton, ORColumbia Gorge Route -- 20%
Ordinarily, you would just lay a temp long piece of track in the ravine, adjusting its height and direction as though it will become the road itself. Then you set the terrain width to the width of the flat are and the embankment/cutting to the angle of the slope desired, which in your case is about 90 degrees. Then hit Y.However, the maximum angle you can set is 88 degrees, so if the width of the concrete at the bottom doesn't overlap the ground enough for the top to get close, either thicken the concrete at the bottom or use some transfers at the top.Try it, being ready to exit without saving.Martyn T. Download my SRVBRDR1.zip from the library. Go to the Piers and Short bridges. If you use the following; SRV_RR_60ft_End_Piers and 60_ft_RR_Bridge, you will have the approach berms and end piers which you can make a terrain object so that the track roadbed will appear, and the viaduct section that will be more then wide enough for your two lane road. You can even map your terrtex terrain to the berms if you wish.Trying to get the terrain to conform to the tight specs needed is nearly impossible.SRV Ron
i cheat i add my track or road, then place the Bridge, then i go into the World file finding the track section by the xyz info... i copy the Position and QDirection from the track section and then Paste it to the Bridge's Position and QDirectionthis is what it'll look like in the finePosition ( 1021.95 14.3721 11.9271 ) QDirection ( 0 -0.408674 0 0.91268 )<< This is only if you feel conformable with playing around in the World file (*.w) you can easily ruin your route if you do something wrong in this file (Lose that tile) so i strongly recommend that you Backup the fine before you edit it along with all files that you edit or plan to edit>> Bob Philadelphia, Pa
