I have spent the last hour searching the database for an answer to this question (without success):How do I recover from the error message "Failed to create terrain tile" in the Route Geometry Editor?I apologize if the answer has been staring me in the face, but I'm at my wits end.
The error occurs in the Route Geometry Extractor when I click "Generate Flagged Tiles".Never had this problem before. But now, I can't even begin to create a route
"Never had this problem before" at least implies that you have successfully extracted at least two routes in the past. The only things I can think of are; 1. You're skipping a step, print out the help file "how to extract a route" and use it as a checklist, 2. You're dragging the enclosure rectangle from some direction other than upper left to lower right, 3. You don't have sufficient RAM or hard disk space for the size of the route you're trying to generate.
or...There's no 'tiles' directory in your route (ie you deleted the folder)same applies for the 'lo_tiles' directory if you are trying to create distant mountains.
Thankyou for the replies and helpful hints. I double-checked everything but was unable to resolve the problem. I have made several routes in the past (but none during the past 8 or 9 months) - none of which exhibited this behaviour.I gave up trying to solve the problem and re-installed MSTS and the problem disappeared. Now, all is right in the land of make-believe.I use my computer for some pretty brutal programming projects which occasionally result in having to recover from severe crashes during the development process. Sometimes, these projects seem to have unintended impacts elsewhere on my system. Perhaps this led to the problem. Who knows?Don't you hate it when a problem crops up and the answer eludes you?
