This is strange..I did an experiment, where I started deleting all the objects in a tile..My FPS were at 15, 10 when running a train. They only went up to 22 after all was deleted.Does terrain cause that low of a FPS count?Any ideas? Thanks again folks.

RE: LOW FPS..with no objects placed....

One thing I never gave thought to when running MSTS -- one of the guys who works at the model railroad shop that I patronize suggested it. Turn off your Anti-Virus and Internet Security programs (I have North) whenever running MSTS. You won't be connected to the Internet, so it is safe. I noticed a big jump the way MSTS performs all of a sudden now that I'm turning off the AV and IS programs when on MSTS.There might be complications for those who have DSL -- as I cannot get it (due to distance from telco switchrooms) I'm still working with a dial-up 56K modem. Slow but sure....hehehe.

RE: LOW FPS..with no objects placed....

Hi Paul:Don't forget shadows. I saw a post suggesting shadows caused a big drop in frame rates - I've got a 1.7 Ghz machine with Geoforce III card, and noticed a slight improvement with shadows off - and then, of course, there's the consist you're running. Is it a default GEEP or 100 car hi-poly freight? No expert here - just thinking out loud with suggestions.Mark

your best frame rates will be with a default loco and a couple default cars... all the extra detail on most add on locos and cars sure makes frame rates take a hit.. some time the older stuff is better!!Patm41

Still LOW FPS..with no objects placed....

Thanks folks for your input...the trouble is...my FPS are alot lower without any cars or locos in the shot.In the RE, I have 2 tiles that for some reason are very low..and I've already gone the "delete and defeat" route to try to find the source..but to no avail. A 20 FPS in RE will equate to a 8-10 FPS with 2 locos and 10 cars..locos being done in 1024 textures. With 2 locos and 10 cars with 512 textures..the rates are 15 FPS.My worst frame rate went all the way to 6 the other day in the operation it's self. Looks like I'll need to limit the route to 512 x 512 textures instead of the newer 1024 x 1024 textures..(which I have used extensively on my locos and some car downloads on my site) and place a discalimer in the read-me to that effect. That's not good...Always got to rob Peter to pay Paul...that needs to change...but how?..Thanks again folks....
