In my SD&A route, I've been using distant mountains courtesy
of DEMEX. The mountains disappeared a few weeks ago as
I was editing the route for v2.0. No matter how I set the
sliders or the Distant Mountain checkbox, MSTS would not
show them. I erased the tiles in the lo_tiles directory
and then rebuilt them. No help.I finally compared my SDA1.trk file from v1.1 of the SD&A
with my current trk file.I found that there is a line Mountains ( 00000000 )that was different. In the v1.1 file, it was Mountains ( 00000002 )I changed the line in my current file and the Distant Mountains
reappeared.I tried a search here but could not find any postings about that
line in the trk file.Does anyone know anything what sets that to 2 and what it does?

RE: Distant Mountains and *.trk file

DEMEX sets it to 2 when you prepare the route, among other things. There have been other reports of it becomming reverted back. Perhaps certain actions in the RGE cause it to overwrite the modified settings.

RE: Distant Mountains and *.trk file

Thanks, John. I figured that might be the case. I did add
a bunch of tiles using RGE as I started to expand my route.

RE: Distant Mountains and *.trk file

While we're talking about Distant Mountains, I'd like to know.. how the heck do you even get distant mountains in the first place? All of the tutorials I have read state or imply that when you first create the route (I think I'm thinking in the RGE.. it's been a while since I messed with it...) that somewhere in the route options there is a checkbox for enabling distant mountains.I swear the honest truth I have never seen such an option. When I picked up my copy of MSTS at the store, did I luck out and get a version that nobody else uses? Or were the tutorials I'm reading written for a version of MSTS Tools that was never circulated? If I am loosing my mind, then just say so, and I'll do a route set in eastern North Dakota. I so badly want to be able to see a few key landmarks in my route before I'm half a mile away from them.- dispatcher618

RE: Distant Mountains and *.trk file

Visit JohnCS' web site, see above for URL. The only known way to get distant mountains is to use a registered copy of his DEMEX program. Well worth it.David Beach.Palouse & LewistonDistant Mountains and *.trk file – image 3
