Claude Debham has modified the BRS to include Hank the Signalmasters signals. The revised route has been uploaded to T-S. It is one file, about 41 megs, sorry about that dialups, but that was the best I could do. It was compressed and readied using Route Riter. This great looking Routr is even better with the new signals. Activity writers can now expect trains to stop at sidings, etc. AS soon as I get the cars dl list done I will have one ready for uploading.Kevin Arceneaux

Awesome! 41 megs isn't bad- -the first one was 60! I've been busy, too- -check the skinning section for a couple of other uploads to the file library. Do I smell activities brewing? Thanks again!Clayton

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

Gee, maybe I should just send the KP sub to him before I clutter up the server with my version----well don't hold your breath, my church will ordain me as a Deacon the 2nd Sunday in October, and after that I won't have as much time for this for the next 3 years----.I am glad that he was able to improve on the signals. I plan to use the signalmaster version on the KP anyway. I also note that he left it as if I had done the work on the upload. As I have said before, if any of your improve on my work, it is fine with me, just footnote me and do your thing.I think the activity hounds will like the KP better as it has a number of branches, and will be modeled with several operating coal mines as it was around 1985 or so. I may also include a now defunct mine near Sykes Mill tunnel because it is a short stub reaching up a "hollow" on a wicked grade and should provide plenty of fun for anyone who FORGETS TO TIE DOWN THE HANDBRAKES.I don't know what the procedure should be, but it may be desirable to remove earlier versions from the server and database just to reduce the confusion and clutter. There will be at least 10, probably more, custom bridges also, although all are based on designs I collaborated with Ron Picardi on to do the BR sub.J. John, I am the one who did that for Claude. That is not the way I had it worded. It was changed. I have to check when I get home this evening but I do not remember the 2nd readme that way either. I do apologize to you if I have upset you in any way. That was not our intention at all.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

Hey, Kevin. It's "Jerry" and I think you might have misunderstood him. The 2nd readme is a tad confusing in that you have to look a little to find out who actually did the v2. I *think* Jerry was saying that you guys made it look like he did the new work instead of crediting yourselves for it. It appears he was trying to make sure you guys got the credit for the new work and that the current readme files don't seem to be clear on that. Just my thoughts. Downloading now as I type! Clayton

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

Who John - like Yellowdog sez - it's me Jerry-------------.I'm not upset at all - fact is I beat Yellowdog in downloading it, and plan to install it myself. What I did mean was that you should credit yourself for any improvements you make and then footnote the producer of the original "product". Since we can't sell it (but don't be surprised if MS does------), we ought to give ourselves all of the Attaboys (or Attagirls) that we can.Now a question for the signalmaster etc.I am planning to do the mountainous portions of the former Milwaukee Road next. The segments from Harlowton west never had TCS but they did have an very early ABS system - in fact the first one ever installed over long distances. Has anyone figured out how to handle block signals only - all the switches will be manual.J. H. Sullivan (i.e. Jerry), P.E. (retired)

Jerry:Going to be a Deacon, eh? Too bad you don't live out here in SE Oklahoma... we could put you to work pronto. (I pastor a church here!)About your KP Sub: Please ask your Pastor to go easy on you and allow you some personal time. After all, you've got an entire group of Clinchfield Junkies that YOU are responsible for creating... and if that KP Sub is delayed... it might get ugly around here, what with tar and feathers and all. Yes, PLEASE include mines, processing plants, etc, that are near your target date of 1985. I backdate my routes to the late 60's and early 70's... and the more online switching, the better!Thank You so very much for the foundational work you've accomplished for the Clinchfield routes. I really like my BR Sub. As an added bonus, your smooth trackwork makes it a pleasure to look out the window and watch the train trail gracefully behind me.Andre "Coonskin" Ming

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

That smooth trackwork was the result of a lot of E-mails with some of the early gurus of this activity. The main thing I had to do was rip out a lot of the dynamic segments, and then put them back in as shorter pieces. Otherwise, there would have been wicked changes in grade. I am doing the same thing to the KP sub. The worst problem is that you cannot look at the track and find these spots, you have to set up an activity and note where it "flickers".I doubt any church in S.E.Oklahoma would want me. I belong to a officially moderate Baptist Church (supports SBC and CBF) and we even have female deacons. The mega church downtown has occasionally referred to us as the lost infidels in Riverside, but we consider them to be somewhat confused themselves.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. (retired)

Hi, just downloaded and installed the blueridge v2. It seems that all of the necessary consist files are missing from the zip file. the route is all there, activities are all there, missing the consist files. Looking forward to running on this route.ZekeOshawa,Ont.

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

My problem turned out to be that I didn't have version 1 installed. Installed version 1, then version 2, then ran the .bat file and everything works again. Route looks real good although I haven't had a chance yet to fully explore it. Give me something to do tomorrow for sure! I think there may still be missing consist files:
Heavy Coal.con
Amtrak_Long_Distance.con
Amtrak_test.con
demo2np.con
L&N F7A.con
Merchandise_CSX.con
Heavy_Haul_Coal.con
Short_COal.con
Blue Ridge Coal.con Not a huge problem as the activities and services that use these can be deleted.

Blue Ridge Sub V2 – image 3

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-02 AT 06:26 PM (EDT)

Has anyone tried to run this update? After installing it I and trying to run it I am getting all sorts of missing texture and shape file error messages. But when I search in the Blue Ridge (blueridge) folder I find the files in the texture folder. Tried copying one to the Routes\texture folder and did not get the same error message again. Is anyone getting the same errors?

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

Hi there,is brsv2.zip a stand alone route or do I need anything else?
I'm asking because when I want to run the route all the objects are there but the whole landscape is missing. This means that all the objects are "floating in space"! I unzipped everything into the "blueridge"-directory and executed the "Installme.bat".
Is there something I forgot or do I need V1?

For the consist files you can e-mail me at cdebnam@bellsouth .net and I'll send you the files that you need for the consist.Make sure that you list the consist files as they appear in the error message. There was no magor change to the route other that changing out the signals from the BNSF to the CLV and CLR that Hank Sundermeyer created.Hank is also responsible for the signal files for the signals. Also if you're having problems with the texture try insatlling over the original and see what will happen.Make sure that you make a back-up of the original CSX Blue Ridge Sub.If you deleted the original you may have to reinstall. Then insatll the upgrade. We tried to keep the up load as small as possible so some files may have been deleted accidentally.

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

I suspect that some files were accidently deleted because I tried several times to get the original lower than 60mbt, and everything I tried produced errors like mentioned here. Installing it over the existing route (after a backup) should work. It might be necessary to manually make all files read-write first.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. (retired)

All I did was to unzip on top of version 1, checking "yes to all" on overwrites, and I have had no problems as of yet. It looks great. Kyle

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-02 AT 10:44 PM (EDT)

Since I had v1 on cd, I tried a couple of ways to install b/f posting and found that installing v2 on top of v1 creates the desired results (i.e. unzipping v2 to the desktop, then copying it into routes and overwriting v1). Anyway, here are a couple of screenshots of a south bound on both routes at the north end of Hannum to show the differences. You can see two different styles of signals (don't know if they "work" yet- -I'll just assume they do) and two different ballast styles (the other I created for my copy of v1). The only thing not right is that there are still two towers for the NB signal instead of a ground light. But it won't kill any of us, so I suppose I'll make it work! Clayton
(edited b/c I keep hitting POST instead of UPLOAD FILE. .aarrgghhhh)

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

Yellowdog you can go into the route editor and replace the high signals with the dwarf signals that are included. Please don't kill me for making that mistake .I promise to do better the next time.Since I'm not familiar with that route in real life I based my signalling placement on tracks that I travel in NC.

Me. . .fool around in the RE. . . Now THAT's murder! ! ! There's a good reason why I stick to skinning and sending photos out to you guys- -I LIKE my sanity! For future reference, the CRR has a dwarf and a mast on each end, not two masts. I played around a little more and saw that Toe River siding (i.e. Altapass siding) has a dwarf on the north end, so I suppose we can forgive this one not having it! Great work, guys. THANKS!Clayton

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

You have to install it over v1 or it doesnt work.It also says in the readme ,to unzip to temp folder. No need to,just unzip straight to /ROUTES ,that works for both v1 and v2.Excellent route,i dont know enough about US signalling to comment on the new ones, but they look good.regards,

Hmm, now let me think . . . Girlie houses. . . Oh Yeah! There is a place in The Loops where this old woman comes out and gives directions. She talked with a lisp, so "Pepper's Creek Road" comes out as "Pepperses Creek." You could probably hook up with her until Jerry gets the North end done. After he's done, you could always slide open the window and keep your eyes open while going through East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. . .

RE: Blue Ridge Sub V2

Be careful with version 2, this is the one that got me in a lot of extra trouble with E-mails.The current version, which exists in 6 files, brsub31-36 IS VERSION 3, which is really just a fully tested version 2 with kinks removed. Version 2 absolutely requires that version 1 be loaded first, otherwise I get lots of warm E-mails. Version 3 is a stand-alone that does not require any additional non-delivered routes to be installed. File brsub36 is a conglomerate of some of YellowDogs locomotives and others coal cars and is required if you want to run the rather bland supplied activities, otherwise you can skip the 6th file. The largest of the 6, as I recall, is 21MBT.J.
