Two weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes! – image 2

Well, I have just deleted, burned, trashed, discarded, annhilated, torpedoed and whatever else one can do to a route in progress.....I give up........Had almost all of the track laid when I ran into a problem that I just give up on......for some reason, still don't have a clue, I ran into some topography (I used DEM by the way) that would not move either by the use of the y key or with function 9 key. Never had the problem before and it totally baffles me.......the only thing i can think of is that it is some kind of seam problem between to tiles created by demex from the DEMS.....I don't know but it renders my route useless to say the least. So I give up......It was fun while it lasted but perhaps I am in the wrong line here. Should have stuck with reskinning I think.......Oh well......maybe after I cool down a bit and find out the reason for this happening, I will attempt another....but not for a while yet.If anyone has a clue as to what might have happened please let me know so that I don't get half way through another route only to uncover the same problem.....Thanks. What the heck, it was only two or three weeks out of an old man's life. And it was such a pretty route too........oh well! TimTwo weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes! – image 3

I dunno about DEM, haven't tried it yet, but I have seen similar problems. Sometimes if I exit the route editor and restart it I get my terrain altering ability back.Sometimes it's because I'm trying to edit something that can't be edited tho:Two weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes! – image 4
I hit the Y key under this piece of track and it won't fill in, WTF?Two weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes! – image 5
Hmmm, if the track is at 400 meters, it ain't gonna work with a 365 ceiling. Maybe I oughtta raise the ceiling or lower the floor of the tile height values to include the height of the track I'm trying to place!

It has been awhile since I looked at DEMEX but I believe there is an option to smooth or blend the seams. Backup what you have and try your DEMing process again. Two weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes! – image 7

RE: Two weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes!

OK fellahs....easy fix, even with DEMS. If and when you set your track at an angle, and you hit "Y" and the ground comes up short, this is what you do. Hit F7, you'll see the terrain grid..click on the grid square (or close by the track) until you see the red out-line...right click the red outlined square and a box comes up with minimum and maximum height. Adjust the + side to a higher elevation. The default is 65.0000 +/- feet. Raise it up to 300 or 400 feet...now select the track and hit "Y". Magic happens. There's more to it than that concerning seam gaps (very fixable) and embankments which you have to adjust. If you are making mountains and high embankments you'll need to pre-set the terrain tiles to a higher height. Unfortunately, you have to stay ahead of the terrain height as you go because sometimes it resets back to default. Make sure that the tiles ahead of you are set at the proper height. Good Luck!!To: Tim....it's in the book....really.KipTwo weeks, over 80 hours gone down the tubes! – image 8

Not the problem Kip, I tried all of those things, still didn't work. And when I hit wire frame mode that section looks totally different, the boxes are square and the f9 tool won't work at all....and it isn't height because it is lower than the mountains sitting upon it. And Cal, I did that too, I used the smooth seam thing in DEMEX. This is something obviously different. I runs clear across my route. It is very strange to say the least....I haven't a clue but am tired of trying to fix it because I have tried everything and nothing works.
But I thank you all for trying to help.

Hmm, I wonder if you're running up on a new R.E. glitch? I assume that if it was a known MS/Kuju "feature" that one of the route gurus would have caught it.Geographically speaking, where is your route located?Henry
