Greetings from the Antipodes. Sniper, you have got it all wrong. We are the right way up and here is proof from the NZ Atlas of the world.
NZ Route information – image 2
Thats us upper left and as we are outnumbered 3 to 1 by sheep, there are a few I got rid of into the route.First of all the route is a 6 part download. I have had more trouble getting the route uploaded then in using the RE, well almost.
I only have a dial up modem and could only upload at night. The first attempt to upload part 1 took 10 attempts. I started to early and kept getting kicked off when the phone rang, yea I know, very backwoods stuff here.I finally got it sorted out and uploads 2 - 6 went a lot smoother apart from speed. I thought part one would be a mess but it appeared ok in the files along with parts 3,4,5. Part 6 was away last night and should be up in a couple of days. Whats happened to part 2 is unknown as it appeared to upload ok and was sequential? I am going to e-mail Nels and see whats going on - or may just upload again tonight and leave it to him to figure out?I neglected to add to the readme that all of the default routes are required to set up the route.Due to the number of add on objects used, the route file ended up at 90meg zipped, hence the need to break it into so many parts. I hope it extracts ok as it is simply the reverse of the break up of the folder, seemed the safest way to do it. It worked ok in tests for me so everyone else should have no problems.NZ steam loco's are available from
http:/groups.msn.com/MSTSFanSiteforNZ
These are made by Captain Bazza to 128 scale, that sizes them to be compatible with US stock. He also provided all of the distinctly NZ models, vegetation etc. The pic with the route shows 2 of his loco's.All of the hills are hand sculpted and I will probably continue with that method as DEMs are a bit beyond me plus it is difficult to get NZ DEM, heck screenshots was enough? Here is the one that would not show last night.

RE: NZ Route information

Read it again, Derek, "Part 6 was away last night and should be up in a couple of days. Whats happened to part 2 is unknown as it appeared to upload ok..."
Few more days to get it straightened out, and I know it'll be worth the wait.
Hee-hee, I feel for ya, Brooksy, I uploaded the first couple versions of PO&N on a dial up, and even at less than 2 megs each time it took several false starts and hours on end to get them uploaded. PO&N5 was twice the size of 3.1, and with the DSL it took 2 minutes to upload 3.5 megabytes, went thru on the first try.

RE: All six files now Present & Accounted for!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-02 AT 02:08 PM (EDT)

Scattered all over hell & breakfast, but a search for "Taieri" brings up all six and nothing else. With those funny kiwi names not too surprising it brings up nothing else! BTW, if you guys are the "antipodes", does that make us the "podes"?!
Downloading all six now, nothing like DSL!

RE: All six files now Present & Accounted for!

BTW, Jim, I've heard that there's a tweak that you can perform on your local computer to allow you to download more than two files simultaneously. Do you know it? It does appear that you must have used it. Lawrence

RE: All six files now Present & Accounted for!

I don't have a clue, I got Netscape Navigator installed and it came that way. I know when I had IE there was a preferences thingie if you waded thru all the submenus to set the max number of downloads at one time, I don't see that in the Netscape 6.2 setup anyplace. Internet Explorer 3, 4, 5, 6, whatever always gave me fits, since it's just as buggy as anything else coming from Redmond, but I never had the oddball problem some people sometimes got, "you have exceeded your maximum number of concurrent downloads, max number: Zero."
Obviously there's a setting in IE somewhere for it. There are limitations tho, a computer is actually not capable of doing more than one thing at a time. Multitasking is really an illusion caused by the fact that it only does one thing at a time, but it does it so fast switching back & forth between tasks that it appears to be doing all that at once. Downloading a single file I get transfer speeds of 75 to 80 kilobytes per second, with six files at once it divvies up and downloads a little of this, a little of that, a little of the other, and each of the six drops to 12 to 15kbps. A single 94mb file would take about 20 minutes to download, six files adding up to 94 megs takes... about 20 minutes. Hee-hee, so there's really no gain, other than being too lazy to wait for one to finish and click on the next one!
