RE: Lords of the Ring Route...

Just for your information, if you are referring to the trilogy that JRR Tolkein wrote, the word "Lords" is singular--Lord. Lawrence

Lord of the rings Route...
I'll try to fit the movie the best I can, and you'll see stations in all the main places of the Tolkien world
Of course I will be limitated by MSTS possibilities. That's why original objects would be great!

RE: Lords of the Ring Route...

Actually. most of Mordor is a barren and desolate plain. It is fenced north, west and south by mountains (very steep and rocky), but open to the east. Arms of the two northern and western ranges form an "inner fence" across the NW corner, forming a triangle. Mount Doom is in the center of the triangle, with Barad Dur north and a little east.

RE: Lords of the Ring Route...

Given that the movie is just the 'opinion' of what a handfull of folks think the scenery should look like, and it's too late to query JRRT about it, (and after all, the whole thing is FANTASY), I think that the selection of scenery is open to a lot of individual taste. After reading the tril over thirty years ago, and many times since, my sense of the landscape and characters was not a bit like that depicted on the movie, although it was still very good.Besides, it's tough to be faithfull to the movie when you place a set of tracks and an engine in the middle of the scene Martyn T. RE: Lords of the Ring Route...

I wuold love to help out. I've already done a few reskins of rolling stock...a "Misty Mountain R.R." Trainmaster and been working on reskinging the new 4-6-2 as a "Dunadain" class passenger locomotive.Give me some idea of where you plan the route to go...The ideas for structures boggles the mind! Personally, I think the Dwarves are the most logical choice from the peoples of Middle Earth to build and operate a railroad. Staying on the main map of Middle Earth, The Lonely Mountain and Laketown would be a good starting point. You could then run south to Minas Tirith and Dol Amroth for a port connection. A line should run around the Mountains at the Gap of Rohan...stations at Isengard and Edoras, then north to Fornost, (So the King has easy and reliable tranportation between the two Captitols). I don't think the Elves would be too interested in participating...Nor would the Hobbits. It would be Men and Dwarves. Now a whole other world/route could be created for Sauron. He definitely would have been into railroads and any technology/machinery available to him...you could do a lot with a railroad in Mordor, connecting east and south to the lands that Sauron had under his subjugation before and during the War of the Ring. Gives me some pretty wild ideas for rolling stock!Well, anyway, as you've probably guessed, Middle Earth is my other passion. I would be happy to give you any help, suggestions or whatever. Just let me know.

what are you planning to run there? Just a reminder, but if you had diesels, you'd have to start drillin' for oil, or import it from (ugh!) OPEC!Uncle Charlie,
