I have a quick question or two. I go to change the texture of the route and it tells me I cannot paint on a compressed tile. Is there a way to change this? And also, would this also cause any trouble with doing tunnel portals? I seem to have the ground at the very beginning in the tunnel then it is clear after that. Any help would be appreciated. Terry
I'm not sure what procedure you are using. Are you trying to load an .ace file directly into a paint program? If so, that may not work. Download TGATool2. Use it to load the .ace file (which loads it uncompressed) and use it to send the file to your paint program for editing. You then use it to convert the edited version back into a compressed .ace file.
May be a little confusion here, the pencil tool only draws on uncompressed textures, and there's very little reason why you would want to draw little pencil lines on the terrain. The only thing you might want to use the pencil tool for is to draw guide lines for painting on a terrtex ace file, if you're gonna make your own terrtex files you need TGAtool2 to open, uncompress, and edit the ace files, get TGAtool2 here: http://fly.to/mwgfxOTOH, if all you're trying to do is change the texture with a different one, it's the next tool over. Open the texture selector window, click edit, insert if the texture you want isn't in there to insert it. In the main route editor window, once you have the correct tool selected, there's a grid of little black lines. Click on the one you want to change, then hit the number key corresponding to the texture you want, and it changes. In this case I hit the 7 key, and the highlighted tile changes to the texture in the number 7 window. To change a large area, click on one square, hold down the shift key and click on another square diagonally, and when they're all highlighted hit the number key for the texture you want, all change at once.I never bought Mike Vone's book cuz I learned all this before he wrote the book, doesn't it cover all this?!Oh yeah, almost forgot the second question:http://users.bigpond.com/cjennin/nswmsts/tunnel/tunnel.html
Thanks Sniper. For some reason I do not have the edit option.... then I opened all the windows in the editor and found that I only have one texture selection to make. That is the simple green grass... I will look at a few more threads and check to see the online tutorials that you have info in. I did find the tunnel portals there also. Thanks again and if you ever go south, say to Cicero, pop in and see my brothers at Lang's Ace Hardware at Cermak and Central... right by the 54 Ave station. Terry
OK, I think I got the terrain figured out at this point, for some reason I was looking for the edit command and its not there, but I found that I had to add the terrian in the selector. One would think it would be there, oh well, and pressing the number changes it. I guess maybe I need to work on the route at other times then at 5 in the morning. Oh well, off to work. Terry
