Hey Sniper, did you forget to trim the weeds in the library? Just saw it in the new files. I noticed that there was no readme or picture. Can you post a picture showing your poor gardening skills (doesn't keep the weeds trimmed!). Also wondering if the .ace files could be applied to single objects for use where you need a clump of weeds somewhere but not a forest. There are lots of places in my route where weeds are "needed??"! I am looking forward to trying them out. Weeds out of control in the library! – image 1

File_ID.diz is usually only a description file, but I included the readme in that, so just open File_ID.diz in wordpad or notepad, my usual long winded instructions. Yeah, the weed objects are rather insubstantial things, as weeds tend to be, so when grabbing a screenshot and reducing it to a thumbnail image the pic turned out nothing like what they actually look like.
As far as making individual objects, you could find a similar shaped object and edit the .s and .sd for that to make single objects. Even when I plant a region and type 9999 in tho, the weeds are very small (the cross shape of the forest region object was too obvious when they were bigger) and spread out, so you gotta stack them to get any kind of density. If a few spill over the tracks here and there, it's no big deal, they're such wispy little things. And it looks cool.

Those look awesome! I'm gettin' some of those! As for water, and the swamp effect, from the impression I get here they're set up as forest objects, which means that they follow the curve of the terrain. Unless your water is reeeeally shallow then, I would think most of the weeds would end up underwater. If your water is rather shallow, though, I imagine it could provide a really nasty effect (nasty in a good way, of course ), and looking really cool around the edges of a small pond or body of water.

Don't youse guys ever mow your lawn?!
Dragging out my soapbox for a moment, whenever somebody comes up with a scathingly brilliant idea like this, the general tendency is to keep it to themselves and jealously guard it so they can be the first to upload something that has the cool new feature in it. I, on the other hand, am unselfish, community minded, a prince of a fella and and all around helluva nice guy.
That's the rep, anyway, actually I have ulterior motives, like tossing something like this out so I can see what other people do with it, and steal ideas from them! Guys like you, for instance, CStevens!Weeds out of control in the library! – image 6Seems to work fine, the only thing is, as Troub mentioned, forest region objects paint whatever texture is used on a scalable cross pattern, for the weeds all the visible texture is at the bottom, and a forest region automatically follows the contours of the ground. So the water has to be pretty shallow, or you have to increase the size of the object in the forest.dat file.http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/forests.html

RE: Weeds out of control in the library!

Yeah, I think it was Hawk that was doing that on Snafu Pass. When you got deeper water just use a forest region tree, for medium water use the JP2largebush thingies. The trick to all this is experiment like crazy, those of you who haven't tried it yet, download the Seaview route and poke around in the route editor for a while. The whole route is a brilliant example of using both custom and default objects in unusal ways, and is the best tutorial I've ever seen on how to get creative with the route editor.

I'm heading out the door, at the moment, to go to work. When I get in tonight, I'm going to download your weeds and see how they work in Sniper's Swamp.

RE: Weeds out of control in the library!

OK! Sniper. I guess I get "Dummie of the Week" award. I'm a little confused with the install instructions (found in "File_ID.diz)."To use:

There are two options with this, if you already are using stuffitpack or something similar so that the route you're working on already has all the textures from all six routes, you only need to:
(I used "EZStuff 4") Copy the contents of this folder to your route folder. This will overwrite the existing forest.dat file.It also tried to overwrite the "Textures" folder.Weeds out of control in the library! – image 10Weeds out of control in the library! – image 11Weeds out of control in the library! – image 12
Double click on \YourRoute\weeds.batThis will copy all five weed textures to autumn, spring, and winter, and copy the single snow texture to all five weed names in the required seasonal snow subfolders.."I know I'm missing something so easy, that when all is said and done, I'm going to have to crawl into the swamp out of shame, but could you clarify what I'm missing here?
OK Folks, don't laugh.
"Look Daddy, there's a funny clown."

Whew. Thanks, I needed that. I started another thread on this, and Teemu was asking a density question somewhere else, so I oughtta post something about that in there too. http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/5994.html
