Hello, folks.I'm working on editing the default signals for Marias Pass to match Norfolk Southern's operating rules. After playing with the SIGSCR.dat and SIGCFG.dat files for a while, I was able to get a good idea of the logic used, and figured out how I could edit a single signal head (make flashing yellow into green, make red into white, etc and change restriced speeds).However... I still need help with a couple of things. Norfolk Southern's rules (at least the time table and rule book I have here) show two indications that I can't figure out how to do. Here they are:Advance Approach - Proceed preparing to stop at second signal. (rule 303) (Yellow over Yellow)Approach Diverging - Proceed preparing to take diverging route beyond next signal at authorized speed. (rule 302) (Yellow over Green)Restricting (three head absolute/interlocking) - Proceed at restricted speed. (rule 309) (red over red over yellow)
As I read MSTS's logic for the BNSF signals, it appears to me to simply ask two questions, and then display the aspect appropriate to its answers. "Is the next block clear? What is the next signal showing?" It apparently does this for each head, with a head being tied to a given route at an interlocking. It appears that the way MSTS gets around this simple logic on the NEC is by tying both heads together (hence 14 light signals instead of 7 for a single CPL). Could I use this same logic progression for the BNSF signals at all?Thanks!-Eric Shock

>You need a double head distant signal. You could create one out of the BNSF 3 head absolute by copying and renaming the S and SD for that signal.Open up the sigcfg file and duplicate the 3 head definitions used by the 3 head BNSF signal giving them unique names of your choice. You will need to add the "ABS" flag to these rename definitions so it will function as an interval rather than an absolute signal. You will need to do a similar operation in the sigscr. There's several ways to do a distant signal:
1) Make it respond to the CLEAR_1 state which the home signal would display if the diverging route were set. CLEAR_2 would be displayed if the main route is set.
2)Script the distant signal to have links just like home signals.I script my distant signals to have identical sigscr logic for both heads and the make the aspect appear different in the sigcfg.I've also used the NEC trick to make a two head signal function as a single head logically.Or you can go to the file section and look for my vertical colorlight signals which have most of these functions, needing only to change the aspects.
