RE: ?

Hi,Firstly it would take a lot of explaining how to go through the various stages of creating a Route. By far the easiest route "no pun intended" is to start off small and learn all the various parts required to build a route. The path most folks have taken is this one.Michael Vone
- Step by Step Guide to Route Building for Microsoft Train Simulator (http://TrainSimulatorWorld.com/)Sorry i just borrowed this from a topic a little further down (cut and pasted) from here. This book comes in download form and is excellent. I know i,ve got it too LOL. It,s not free but its also not expensive. This will introduce you gently into the art of route-making. As i said earlier there is far to much to explain for a forum topic.Best Shaun.

RE: ?

The alternative is to read all the posts in this forum. Or at least to read those that have to do with the Route Geometry Extractor, DEMs, dynamic track, markers, water, forests, alignment, and probably a couple of dozen other topics. I don't want to sound uppity about it, but that's pretty much the approach. It's a steep learning curve and not for the impatient or faint of CPU.If you're tired of Marias Pass, there's a very wide variety of routes available for the low, low cost of nothing in the File Library. Check 'em out, open 'em up in the Route Editor, and see what others have done. Or just run 'em. The tools are there to create your own, but they're way beyond plug and play. On the other hand, you'll probably learn quite a bit.Andy

You're new route :-)

I personally don't have the book on route building, but from what I understand it is really useful and from all of the praise it has recived on countless occasions I would highly reccommend buying it if you are having trouble figuring out the Route Geometry Extractor and the Route Editor. Also if you don't want to use DEM data for your route and don't mind building the terrain by hand you can read the help files that came with the program. For me the hardest part was generating the terrain in the Route Geometry Extractor. But if you follow the directions in the help files carefully you should be able to figure out how to do it. I would also recommend getting the allobjects.ref file package from the files section of this website to give you acess to all of the buildings, signals, track sections and other objects in the game for building your route. Then once you get the terrain generated go into the route editor and learn by laying track and building a route. It's hard to learn at first, but once you get started it seems to become alot easier. I would suggest building a small practice route for you to learn on, mine is four tiles square in the Route Geometry Extractor, and come in here and ask for help if you run into trouble. Giving you a step by step instruction on how to do it would take a while though, but directions are in the help files in the game and editors. And finally, like I said the best way to learn is to physically build a route and learn to use the editor by working with it. Start with a small test route to learn the editor before building a larger route. I hope that this helps you and good luck on building your route, George.

RE: You're new route :-)

To use your new locos and cars you need to create a consist that includes them in the consist maker built into the activity editor. I hope that helps you, George.
