Sagebrush… Coming Soon to a Route Near You! – image 1 Works great as a forest object! This is 3 different sagebrush plants, overlapped, at 5000 density. Doesn't cause any performance hit. I don't have a 3D program, and am using an uncompressed .s, tall bush.s, which is really too big, but works. One catch, used as individual objects, the image needs to be in the middle of the ace to end up on the ground, but as a forest object, it then is floating 4 feet in the air. With the image at the bottom of the ace, it places underground and is very hard to see the selected lines ( damn near invisible, and hard to place. As a forest object it works great this way, placing just right. This is near Antonito on the new C&TSRR. I'm still working on a better terrain texture, may taie a while as my time is in short supply until late fall.I'll try to get these uploaded in the next couple days or so.Steve

RE: Sagebrush.... Coming Soon to a Route Near You!

Hi Steve
These are great and will look good on my NZ route as we have a very similar looking plant growing at higher altitudes.
Can you tell me what happened with the clear fell texture you were working on for logging areas?
My apologies if that was not you but I seem to recall your name with this texture.
Cheers

Yep, Its me working on the clearcuts. I could send you what I have done. Some of the transition textures and snow textures aren't done, I just haven't had time. The sage brush is something I've been toying with for months. They still have to have snow textures and readme files.Steve

RE: Sagebrush.... Coming Soon to a Route Near You!

Hi Bill,It's on my list, but a ways down! They blow into town (Baker City OR, a real "old west" town) regularily. I'll get some photos, but it will be a couple months. Now that Xtracks is on track (not on my computer yet though) I'm giving some thought to trying my hand at the Sumpter Valley RR, (36" gauge) as the museum and operation are close at hand, and the route started about a mile from my house, so research is easy. I'll have to figure out DEM's though, probably a winter project.Steve

Steve:The sage looks great. Just the thing for the SW routes. Just the screenshot you showed really adds to the "feel" of SW Colorado. I like the way all these additions let the route evolve. Now if we could just get some decent editing tools that don't require multiple reboots, magic incantations, and communications from beyond to get them to work!Andy

RE: Sagebrush.... Coming Soon to a Route Near You!

I sent them out to a few testers today. Soon as I hear from them, (assuming there's no glitches) I'll upload them, with snow textures too. I've included the lines to add them to the forest.dat.Steve

Likem' gonna usem'. I have redone some of the jp2bushes to be the scrub brush that line the California hills. I will upload them when I am satisfied with them. This will replace the JP2 bush 1, which sucked anyways.

Plants are great but where did you get that engine?
Looks like something I would very much want to paint as G&D #38 (or #35 if the pilots could be gone).
Would be very nice dragging a long freight train together with #37.

RE: Sagebrush.... Coming Soon to a Route Near You!

Jon Davis did it, sent it to me to test and do sound, several months ago. He was real busy at the time, but said he would upload it soon. I haven't heard from him in months, so don't know his plans. I'll write him and see if I can get his permission to upload it, but it may be some time before I hear back. It is an NP Z-1 2-6-6-2, which Polson Bros. logging in W. Washington bought in about 1930, then they became Rayonier, and it ran until 1959. A sister engine, although somewhat different design, was the 38, bought from the Sierra RR.StevePS, I'll upload the sagebrush sometime today!

RE: Sagebrush.... Coming Soon to a Route Near You!

Ah, that makes perfect sense. The #37 I’ve painted is Jon Davis Great Northern L-2.
The ‘original’ #38 on John Allens G&D was a Sierra 2-6-6-2 and #35 a similar engine but with the pilots removed.
You know if he was planning to do the sister too?
Really hopes he finishes it, his models are second to none.

RE: Sagebrush.... Coming Soon to a Route Near You!

Last I heard, he was putting the finishing touches on the Rayonier #70, a logging 2-8-2, a 2 drum steam donkey engine, and a variation on his skeleton flat cars. He mentioned doing the #38 in the future and possibly the #110, a saddletank 2-6-6-2.The sagebrush was uploaded yesterday afternoon and should show in thie file library soon.Steve
