Hey, No Cheating!! ~laugh~ Been in her four times so far, haven't found it, but I'm having a blast looking for it. It doesn't help that I have no sense of direction irl--well that is if the sun isn't out-- I keep finding my way back to Spalding Island no matter where I start out at!
And, no, the lack of sense of direction has nothing to do with being a Tech Ditz or having Auburn hair.

RE: Sea View 2

" The Secret Area
You may run across a "hidden" secret area somewhere in Sea View 2. If you do, it is OK to place general comments about the Secret Area on forums. However, please do not post any screen shots, location or description. Not knowing what to expect should make it more interesting for those seeing it for the first time."
****You accepted the terms and conditions of the route when you installed it. Bill worked very hard on this route, giving us something incredible. I hope very much, now, that I never find the secret area. The fun of the secret area is that you have to find it yourself without help from others. It's the discovery of it. Next time, Joshyn, read the readme file very carefully before you install something. I know that it was hard to resist giving a hint, just, please, don't do this again. To do so would be to dishonor the person who created the route, in my opinion.I hope that Nels removes this thread from the board, so that it doesn't ruin the surprise that Bill created, the discovery of it, the sense of accomplisment, for others.

RE: Sea View 2

I think the route is great. I would like to know how Bill did some of the spectacular things he did on this route. All I can say is take some motion sickness pills because you might need them if you ignore the warnings.I was glad to see that Sea View 1 was included (and improved). Now I can delete that route and save disk space. I'll keep it on CD for future reference.Remember, keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down (unless you go somewhere where things are not quite level.I didn't give any hints, did I?DCForum Discussion Forum - Sea View 2: DCForum Discussion Forum – image 2

RE: Sea View 2

Last time I got involved with this "Secret" stuff, with SeaView1, I had to get out of the country, fast. They found me in South America, where they tortured me (do you know what it's like having your toenails ripped out, and having toothpicks drove under your fingernails?)
I managed to break free of their confinements, and still got some good photos sent back to headquarters, with the help of my good ole companion, Igor, the three legged dog. Here's a link to that little excursion:
http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=6950&forum=DCForumID3&archive=yes
I just don't think I can go through all that again.
I wish I could help you, but I'm gettin' too old for this.

There's a bunch of tow trucks running up and down the road, they just can't find the wreck, and didn't I see a box of donuts on the hood of one of those cop cars?

RE: Sea View 2 Secret Area pic !!!

Derby415, that's a faked shot, created by merging the bottom of one shot from Seaview2 with the top of a sky texture I stole from Morrowind. I'm working on a Science Fiction route on another planet (which I'm probably gonna turn over to Bill for scenery), and I havent totally figured out all the envfiles stuff yet. Here's what I actually have so far;DCForum Discussion Forum - Sea View 2: DCForum Discussion Forum – image 12
Nowhere near where I want to be, the odd trick is that daysky.ace is opaque, sun.ace has an alpha channel transparency, and is actually layered in FRONT of the sky texture.
If you want to play with that type of thing, first you need to buy a good graphics editing program like Paint Shop Pro;
http://www.jasc.com/products/ae/
You can download a trial version from there.
Next you need TGAtool2 for converting ace files;
http://fly.to/mwgfx
That's freeware, and is the easiest way to edit ace files.
In a coconut shell, the format is;
Routename.trk (name of the route), editable in wordpad, has the entries for sun.env, rain.env, and snow.env in the \Envfiles folder. Those 3 files have a whole bunch of parameters that affect how the skies and water are displayed, including the names of the actual ace files used, which are in \Envfiles\Textures.
http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d07e3fe32de356d.zip
You want to play with this one, download and unzip that, copy it into \Envfiles\Textures in an add-on route, and when it screws something up (or when you screw up editing the .env files and get the "train world initialization failed"), just copy the \Envfiles folder from \Template and paste it into the route to fix it. Not on Seaview, of course, that has custom water textures and .env files in it.

That's incredible, Sniper. Looking good so far. Last night I was playing with STBC and had thought of using the space textures in MSTS for a route, but you're beyond what I could have done. Great job.

RE: Sea View 2 Secret Area pic !!!

Thanks, Sharra. I'm trying to figure out what STBC stands for, and I'm drawing a blank. Storm Troopers with Big Coconuts?
Pat, I did consider using the maglev for this, but until all the bugs are exterminated from the various Xtracks thingies, I'd prefer to avoid that can of worms. I'm also using Mike Vone's trick of rotating the track to max elevation, hitting the T key to rotate again, etc. I got some sections that are a 12 degree incline, but since I hacked the gravity for one-tenth, you can still accelerate going uphill on that. Be interesting to find out what the max limit is, could I do a complete roller-coaster loop?
Well, back to my mad scientist laboratory, catchya's!
