Jun-03-02, 01:00 AM (EDT) "Strange error on the NECv4" I was working on the Washington DC Union Station area, specifically world file 011069+14261 when I started getting send/dont send error reporting every time I tried to place a track section. Didn't matter what type of track section, every time I saved after placement I got the error. The world file which is about 775Kb was saved as a 1Kb file. Had to delete that file and use the .bk file to recover.
Looking in the route editor the number of objects on this tile was 1800.
I reduced the number of tile objects by relaying all the track in the Washington station. KUJU used multiple sections of short track sections for a long straight run. Example; a 580 meter double track run used 10-100m straights,1-50m straights and
5-10m straights. I got the object count down to 1521 by replacing all the multiple track sections with long sections. My reason for reporting this is to ask if there is anyone who actually knows what the tile object limit is?Below is a screen capture of the Washington Union Station area. As can be seen I have added extensive trackwork here. It was a real shock to be handed that send/dont send after I was almost finished. Backups and a glimmer of understanding of the RE saved the day.Message Areas - "Strange error on the NECv4" – image 1Regards,

Jun-03-02, 09:07 AM (EDT) 1. "RE: Strange error on the NECv4" Vince, I ran into the exact same problem building the 30th Street Station yard on the NEC Extension. We discovered that the object limit varies. But we also discoverd track sections, roads, track objects, signals, and anything else that affects the track database files use up the limit faster than normal scenery items. Therefore if you use alot of track sections on a tile such as in a yard, you reduce the total amount of objects that you can place on that tile. Converesely on a tile with few track sections, say running through a large forest or wilderness area with alot of trees or buildings, you can have a larger number of objects on the tile. So basically what you did by replacing several smaller track sections with one longer track section was the best thing you could do to fix the problem. But as far as the limit to how many objects you can put on a tile goes it is not a set number, like I said it is variable based on how many track sections you have on the tile. I hope that this answers your question, and good luck with the NEC v.4. We are all looking forward to it and we appreciate the work you are doing on this route. Jun-03-02, 10:08 AM (EDT) 2. "RE: Strange error on the NECv4" Vince,I seem to remember from M.Vones Guide To Route Building, That 700kb was the max. size a world tile could go without problems.
So the object count could vary significantly until that 700kb/tile limit is reached. pennsyfan2 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-03-02, 08:42 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Strange error on the NECv4" Thanks for the replies. I managed to get the world file for this area from 775Kb down to 635Kb by deleting uneeded scenery object and reworking existing track. All better now...and...the route just survived a track data base rebuild.
Back to pounding spikes.Regards,
