May-31-02, 10:05 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" I am a Canadian citizen and good neighbour of your country. I would love to see Horseshoe Curve on your route because I have read and seen myself with this route in the past. I am definite interested to get your route when you are done with the building the scenery, tracks and others -- etc. ThanksCNBALA Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-31-02, 10:12 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" Great.... I live in Johnstown and would love to see that route... Would like to see you place emphasis on the South Fork Secondary.... Going from South Fork, PA to Paint, Windber, and Central City.... It now hosts 1 unit coal train/day.... Also would like to see good detail on Johnstown in the yard and mill areas.... I can provide some technical assistance if you want....Mike..... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-31-02, 10:28 PM (EDT) 5. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" You must be reading my mind. Those were some of the areas that I am going to focus on, especially the Southfork area. Cresson will also be a major focus point. I live in Conemaugh. I know exactly every inch of the yards/interchanges that needs to be put into place. I am not too sure about the mill area. I was tossing around the idea of just having the mill as background scenery (seeing that it is on the other side of the river). This could change!!!Also, I may end the route at Altoona for now with the potential for futher expansion. I am not to sure about the area between Altoona and Huntington. I may have to make several visits and take some photographs to get a better feel for the area.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!johnatv30 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-31-02, 11:43 PM (EDT) 6. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" I would really love to see this route done because I have been going to Altoona, PA since the summer of 1992 every year just to watch NS through there and really miss Conrail a lot. I would also love to see the route go all the way to Pittsburgh, PA with Horseshoe Curve and the Galitizan Tunnels modeled on this route as well as all of Altoona including the yard there as either a start or an end point. Please reply back to me with your thoughts. Thanks a lot. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-01-02, 06:08 PM (EDT) 8. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" Indeed, the route you are planning is under construction. I am doing the PRR mainline from Gallitzin to Harrisburg and Huntingdon is on the route. Currently I am putting Altoona together. I am including a picture of the curve.

Jun-01-02, 08:20 PM (EDT) 9. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" Wasn't that really a four track curve? I know it's three now, but in the age of steam it was four.David Beach. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-01-02, 10:16 PM (EDT) 10. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" You are correct!!! The main line was four tracks from Altoona, PA to several miles west of Johnstown, PA. The line was reduced to 3 tracks around 1981-1982. However, the route that I plan MAY include the 4 track main line.johnatv30 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-01-02, 10:17 PM (EDT) 11. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" You are correct. My version is simplified so that MSTS can handle the whole route. My route is imspired by but not exactly to prototype. Additionally, that track is all dynamic track and getting three around the curve was a challenge. Although I fol,low the mainline, I triple track all the way and, in tunnels, go down to double track due to the limitations of MSTS. And, I know nitpickers will have a field day, but then I want to complete the route ina reasonable fashion. md Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-01-02, 10:37 PM (EDT) 12. "RE: Conrail (Northfork Southern) Western PA Route" My initial plan was to design the route so that it will cover the area from Greensburg, Pa to Huntington, PA. However, I noticed on this message forum that several other people are working on the line from Huntington to Tyrone, PA. Seeing that Tyrone is only being several miles north of Altoona, my plan now is to end my line at Altoona. I plan to fully model Altoona with all the yards, shops, etc. The route from Altoona will go around Horseshoe Curve, through Gillitzin tunnels, through Cresson, through South Fork (this is where the South Fork Secondary branch line will start--it will end near Central City, PA), through Conemaugh interchange and yards, through Johnstown and end around Seward/New Florence, PA (power plants).I would like to design the route to Pittsburgh or even Conway yards, but I have very little "track" information regarding those areas.I would appreciate any track information of the route (lets say from Conway yards to Altoona). I would greatly appreciate some MSTS scenery files that could be used on this route. I already started to download files from Train Sim. I purchased the Step-by-Step Guide to Route Building from Abacus Software (big book--300 some pages when you print the .pdf file). Using the ideas and comments from this manual, I am downloading the DEM terrain files for all the areas that are going to be covered by this route. I want this route to be as realistic as possible.johnatv30
