May-19-02, 12:00 PM (EDT) "NEC question" I have the most bizarre question because I have to know this. Wih NEC 4 or whatever number it is going to be. Is it going to be a completely separate route as if you downloaded a separate route, or is it where you have to put it into the NEC folder? Please tell me it is completely separate However it is going to be installed I hope the work is going well Dan Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-19-02, 01:36 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: NEC question" It will be a completly seperate route with a unique route name.
It will NOT overwrite any existing routes or user files.
It will be installed using the InstallShield(tm) self extracting executable. No copy paste of files and all that confusing stuff.
The batch file that copies needed files (just a few) from existing routes will run automatically with the installer. All the user will need to do is start the installer, sit back and watch it happen. Vince

May-20-02, 11:44 AM (EDT) 5. "RE: NEC question" Yeah, the NEC Extension will unfortunately have to be released later after the NEC 4.0 is released in order to ensure the compatibility of the two routes. From what myself and Motley24Crue2 have seen it will be well worth it to ensure the NEC extension is compatible with the NEC 4.0. And we also plan to go well past the North Philadelphia Station, so you will have a nice long route to run on when our two routes are completed. It should be great when it is all finished Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-30-02, 12:47 PM (EDT) 10. "RE: NEC question" Hey Vince I have a question are the stations along the route going to look like stations or cardboard cut outs like the default New Carrollton. If anything make the stations look like stations. Besides that best of luck on the route and we are all waiting with held breath until you are done.Dan Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-20-02, 12:48 PM (EDT) 6. "RE: NEC question" Here's a novel question... Is ANYONE expanding the NEC all the way up to Boston (and perhaps beyond with the opening of the North Station Portal in 2005 to Portland, ME?)? If anyone could do it I am sure that person could make a fair chunk of change on that route. I live in Boston, so if anyone is modeling the route I can help out in anyway. May-21-02, 09:31 AM (EDT) 7. "RE: NEC question" Right now the plan is to go to NYC and Harrisburg. This alone will be a massive project. I would like to go to Boston or Newport News to include the whole NEC, but for right now the plan is NYC and Harrisburg because of the amount of time it will take to build the route. It's alot of track that we have to lay I am planning on building the route for download here so hopefully everyone can enjoy it. But for right now I am planning on seeing how extending the NEC to NYC and Harrisburg goes before thinking about going further. Also it will be a massive route as it is as far as file size goes, we also need to see how well MSTS can handle such a massive route. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-21-02, 11:36 AM (EDT) 8. "RE: NEC question" George,I have completed the mainline from Harrisburg to the Pomeroy(MP 42) including the Parksburg interlocking where the Atglen and Susquehanna Branch takes off. I'm debating how much farther east I want to come. I put in a 4 track main from Lancaster to Parkesburg and built the flyover at Parkesburg for the A&S. A two track main extends from Lancaster to Royalton where the Columbia line rejoins the mainline into Harrisburg. It's going to be a fair sized set of files as well with just the track and basic terrain. I will make a copy of the work I have done to date, and reserve that. I want to work more on Harrisburg and Lancaster putting in yard trackage as part of my personal route and add the Columbia, A&S,branches and the Port road. Just an update on progress of the HBG - Phil Mainpennsyfan2 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-22-02, 09:00 AM (EDT) 9. "RE: NEC question" Wow, it really sounds like progress is moving fast along your route there. I can't wait to see it. If you want to stop in Parkesburg I will work from Philadelphia to Parkesburg and either try to merge the two routes there or use it as an engine switch point. I know what you mean about file size. MSTS seems to love to eat up the HD with the routes. It is great that it is coming along so well. Like I said before, I will extend the NEC extension to wherever you stop your route and try and merge them there. Parkesburg sounds like it might be a good place for that though. Do you have any screen shots of the route so far? I was just curious how it looked. I really look forward to seeing your route. Good luck on it and keep up the great work. Thanks for the time you have invested in it so far. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
