May-08-02, 11:48 AM (EDT) "Sometimes 1 save, sometimes 2?" Just curious, as I'm working away on the NEC - I'll add a car spawner and some clutter in a area, and hit SAVE. I'll get a prompter saying 'Save World Placement changes? Y/N', and other times it may come with a second prompter 'Save Terrain changes? Y/N' I always say 'yes', but wouldn't say I'm ever changing the terrain? Just adding bits and pieces is as far as I'm going.
And the second prompter is rather infrequent each time I save? Now I've done a defrag, and there's something like 2,1008KB in MSTS that can't be defraged? Hope I'm not doing anything wrong? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-08-02, 12:09 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: Sometimes 1 save, sometimes 2?" It sounds like everything is working OK - at least on the save - I don't know about the defrag. At least I know I often get the 2 save dialogs when I do a save. It seems to me that I get 2 if I've done anything to alter the terrain - change texture, hit the "Y" key, or something similar. There may be some terrain adjustment if you place something on the ground using "H" but I can't say for sure. I've also seen the program come up with only the "save terrain" box if I've been working on textures and not placing items. One weird thing I've seen is that I'll change the error bias on a tile from 1 to 0 and save the change, but when I come back to it the bias has gone back to 1. I saw a thread on this recently, but can't recall if anyone had reached a definite conclusion about how to keep it from bouncing back.My philosophy - save often, back up often, quit and restart the program when the Black Screen starts showing up, ignore a lot of the other bizarre behavior in the program, and press ahead! So far, so good.Andy Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-08-02, 01:34 PM (EDT) 2. "RE: Sometimes 1 save, sometimes 2?" Sounds to me like you are doing it right. I have noticed that too actually, sometimes the save messages appear and sometimes they don't depending on what it is that you are adding or adjusting. Like Andy said, save often and keep making backups. Keep up the good work and good luck on this project Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-08-02, 01:38 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Sometimes 1 save, sometimes 2?" Thanks Andy, that's my philosophy as well. I've been 'grounding' alot of the trees between Washington and Baltimore, and maybe that's causing the terrain change? And I also did a post in 'General' about a 'nuclear blast on MSTS', where I was working down the line, and all the terrain and objects were literally 6ft. underground past this little bridge?
I exited, ran the program, and thankfully all was fine - and returning to route editor, it was good also. Just a weird glitch?
But I think that caused this weird clump my defrag is picking up on now?Oh well, I'm sure it will diminish over time and defrag's? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
