Apr-29-02, 11:09 PM (EDT) "To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" THANK YOU !!I have just spent the last hour or so going through different posts looking at screenshots of different Routes that have been / or are currently being created for all of us to enjoy.I personally have given up the hope of ever finishing a Route as it is way too much work, and I don't think I could ever reach the quality of the work that some of you have put forth.I "sit" within the Route Designer and place Track and Objects and wonder............How much time do these other guys put into this darn editor ????It is absolutly stunning to see the projects being created, and to think how much of your " Free Time " is being devoted to make the rest of the Train-Sim community happy. ( Some less happy than others recently...hehe )Anyways once again ..Thank you from a measly skinning / lighting person.Tim Kent

Apr-29-02, 11:20 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" Hi
It amazes me too. You do have to have a special talent...
I've started and stopped at least forty-eleven time on my meager route, to no avail... 'course I got a 'N' scale layout I haven't finished either. Being no spring chicken, myself, I need to get to it Regards
Bob

Who gives a flying rip if the thing only gets one download....or 5000?Create it for you. You are the one that counts the most. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-30-02, 00:33 AM (EDT) 5. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" Thanks Tim. I don't know about other route builders, but I don't route build to make the community happy. Like Lawrence said, I do it to as a hobby for the fun of it. Then if some people in the community also enjoy my route, that is icing on the cake. Thanks again,Bill Burnett

Apr-30-02, 10:58 AM (EDT) 8. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" Same with me, I like building my 'Nescio' route, and I do it whenever I have time, 1 or 2 hours every evening.
I am working on it for a month now and even the tracks aren't finished yet...
Probably will take another month ( or two ) before I can release the beta version with scenery.
But to be honest, to know people actually using a route that I have build gives a special satisfaction.......Ron

Apr-30-02, 11:16 AM (EDT) 9. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" As a route builder, net yet published, I will say thanks to all the others before me. As I work on the Columbia Gorge, I often wonder if I have "bitten off more than I can chew!" It **IS** a lot of work with a lot of headaches but I am going to see it through. I have been very fortunate in that there have not been many major crashes. I save frequently and backup the entire route at least once a day.To all the newbies out there and especially to you, Tim, I say perservere and proceed cautiously. Save frequently, backup frequently, and reboot occasionally. If you start seeing strange behavior in the Route Editor, save, get out, and reboot. You are probably running out of memory. RE is notorious for gobbling up memory and not releasing it.Live long and prosper!Message Areas - "To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" – image 5

Apr-30-02, 12:01 PM (EDT) 10. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" I greatly appreciate your comments, Tim, and I suspect that anyone who's working on a route (or anything else) is as well. I'd like to echo some of the comments here and say that I'm not working on a route for the benefit of the Train Sim community, although if others can enjoy it (if it ever gets done), so much the better. I'm doing it for my own personal satisfaction and because I'd like to get some idea of what it was like to drive a steam engine through the mountains of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico.I've also been very pleased with the group of folks I've encountered here. The advice and extras that are available here have made the entire process a lot more enjoyable. There's certainly a few folks out there who want to do nothing but gripe, but you can ignore them for the most part. If I ever do get my route done, there will be a load of kudos that will have to go out with it. Without this forum, I'd have thrown in the towel long ago. It's nice to hear more comments like yours, rather than gripes about not being able to get something for absolutely nothing. Apr-30-02, 01:15 PM (EDT) 11. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" I also would like to thank all the route designers out there. I enjoy the routes I have installed and I am using ideas in them for the route I am doing.
I would also like to thank you Tim and all the other "measly" lighting and skinners out there. Without the trains to run on the new routes, it be boring very quickly just like the default routes are. At least for me anyway.

May-01-02, 00:02 AM (EDT) 13. "RE: To ALL Route Designers !!!! A special thanks" LAST EDITED ON May-01-02 AT 00:22 AM (EDT)I have fun making stuff for my route. The stimulation may help me avoid alzheimers, but on the other hand the aggravation might give me alzheimers. What was the question. Who are you.......
All seriousness aside, I would like to thank all you skinners out there! I skinned a loco and think that route building is tons easier.
