Apr-27-02, 02:00 PM (EDT) "Lost signals on PON5" I suddenly lost all signals in PON5. The stands are there, but the faces are all black. I deleted, then re-installed the route and still have black faces. I tried to keyword search this forum, but didn't have any results. Can anyone help? Thanks.Brad Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-27-02, 07:17 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: Lost signals on PON5" Probably not. I had that problem several times when I was first putting it together, and one thing Judd Spittler found is that there's a "light count" limit in the sim. He had uploaded a replacement geep 38, and depending on the number of the replacement models you had in an activity, the signals and the headlights on the engines would go out when the light count was exceeded. So if you're driving a few SD-40s with a lot of ditch lights and bogie lights, or the pre-patch BNSF 2098, you'll get that problem. The only fix is opening the .eng file and getting rid of some of the glitter by deleting light entries from it.
We're still not too clear on the actual limit, and KUJU didn't document any of this worth a #*%$&#!, but Judd's theory is that the limit applies to all light sources within a quad, so engines with a lot of lights combined with AI trains with a lot of lights on routes (Like Marias or PO&N5) that have a lot of signals per mile of track, are gonna have this problem. Only known solution at present is using engines with less lights, or cutting down the number of light sources in the engines you want to use. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-30-02, 12:56 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Lost signals on PON5" Hi Brad,If the "light show" geep you are refering to is my BNSF 2098, the best fix is to install the updated eng file which I developed for it. This is available either here on Train-Sim.com, or on the product support page of my website: http://juddspittler.com/spittler_engineering/product_support.htm That would be much easier than removing lights yourself. If it is another locomotive you are talking about, you may have to do it yourself, like you say.Good luck!Judd Spittler

Apr-30-02, 04:19 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: Lost signals on PON5" 2098 is probably the one referred to when they say "light show", altho there may be another one. I had a wierd time with the problem because I was using Cadman's PO&N #12 and #18 reskins of an SD-40 mod made by somebody else a long time ago for test driving, and at first I had no problems. As I started adding more signals to the route, then testing each new signaled section, all of a sudden, "out go da lights!" I must have spent three weeks adding, linking, deleting, and re-adding and linking signals on one stretch of track before I finally figured out it was the light count in the SD-40s that was doing it! (At least I knew it wasn't 2098, since we went thru all that about the headlights with 2098 on the PO&N before it even had signals!) Rather than trying to tone down the SD-40 lights myself, I just D/Led the original mod to make the SD-40 drivable and hacked the .eng file from that for the two PO&N SD-40s. That's the worst trouble with trying to improve things, you usually end up finding out the hard way why the original was so lame to begin with!
