Apr-25-02, 05:14 PM (EDT) "Using DEMS and Marking Tools - Step by Step" Has anyone thought about creating a manual on how to use DEMS and Marking tools? I would gladly pay a small fee for such a manual, as I am sure other would as well. Perhaps the developers of the various marker programs can create such a manual? Just a thought.I seem to remember a post a while back that was kind of like a step by step guide to using DEMS and marker programs. But a concise manual similiar to what Michael Vone did for route building would be nice.ThanksATSFDUDE Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Using DEMS and Marking Tools - Step by Step" While it would be nice, I believe all of the information that is required can be found in the various threads on this site.Probably the greatest contribution to the "art" was the latest version of DEMEX which allows you to combine just about as many DEM modules as you wish and extract directly to scenery. It does an excellent job of seam filling, etc.Another equally good method is to use MicroDem, which is somewhat faster to use, especially if you use the releases of about January 21, 2002 and later. DEMEX offers one additional benefit, however. You can use Convert31 which is in the file section to generate your route flags, but I find that it does not jive real well with MSTS tiles. DEMEX offers a solution to this, in that you can shift your scenery E-W,N-S incrementally until the sceneral at some fiducial points lines up acceptably with the markers.I have all but stopped using Convert31, however, because by using the waypoint generation function of MicroDem, I can quickly digitize points on a rail line (road, creek, whatever) and these generally come out closer than the generated points. If there is a discrepancy, then I use DEMEX to shift the scenery. If I had the time, I would do such a manual, but what with yard work, painting the house, taking care of the honey-doos, I wonder, now that I am retired, how I ever had time to work.J. Apr-26-02, 08:29 AM (EDT) 5. "RE: Using DEMS and Marking Tools - Step by Step" Laurance Kelly has a website but I don't recall the address that has a very good guide for use with Demex. The process can be a bit confusing but is not overly complex. The results will be well worth the effort. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
